Cell extracts of Candida albicans were fractionated by concanavalin A affinity chromatography. Eluted mannosylated proteins (fraction II) and nonbinding, nonmannosylated proteins (fraction I) were collected and assayed directly for inhibition of adherence of C. albicans to endothelium. Fraction II blocked blastospore adherence to endothelial cells. Fraction I blocked both blastospore and germ t...
Antagonistic interactions between the nymphal parasitoid, Tamarixia radiata Waterston (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), and the ARSEF 3581 strain of the entomopathogenic fungus, Isaria fumosorosea Wize (Hypocreales: Cordycipitaceae), could disrupt biological control of the Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Liviidae). Three interactions were evaluated under laboratory conditio...
effects of three nutritional levels of beet root molasses, cheese permeate, wheat bran extract, rice bran extract and sabouraud,s dextrose broth (sdb) were evaluated for blastospore production by two isolates of beauveria bassiana sensu lato. at an interval of 24 h for seven days. depending on the isolate, maximum blastospore production was obtained in 12% rice bran extract and 20% cheese perme...
formulation of blastospores of entomopathogenic fungi may help to overcome unfavorable climatic conditions and may increase their effectiveness. in the present study, different products of wettable powder of blastospores were prepared for two isolates of beauveria bassiana and were stored at two different temperature regimes, refrigerator (4±1°c) and laboratory (24±3°c) conditions. after storag...
Candida albicans, the major human fungal pathogen, undergoes a reversible morphological transition from blastospores (round budding cells) to filaments (elongated cells attached end-to-end). This transition, which is induced upon exposure of C. albicans cells to a number of host conditions, including serum and body temperature (37 degrees C), is required for virulence. Using whole-genome DNA mi...
Eight pathogenic Candida species were exposed to 6oCo radiation and examined for variation in growth and development. All isolates demonstrated accelerated pseudohyphal growth and blastospore production at 10,000 rads compared with controls receiving no gamma radiation. Growth gradually decreased with increased 6oCo exposure, and minimal recovery occurred with four species at 2.4 million rads.
Adhesion on a surface via nonspecific attachment or multiple ligand-receptor interactions is a critical event for fungal infection by Candida albicans. Here, we find that the tri(ethylene glycol)- and d-mannitol-terminated monolayers do not resist the blastospore attachment, but prevent the hyphae adhesion of C. albicans. The hyphae adhesion can be facilitated by tripeptide sequences of arginin...
an identification of optimal environmental conditions and effective factors for growth and sporulation of biological control agents is indispensable for their mass production. in this study, the effect of some liquid and solid media were evaluted for beauveria bassiana sporulation. the results of experiments on b. bassiana indicated that in liquid media the effect of light (p=0.0001), food qual...
