Submerged arc welding is preferred over other methods of welding because of its inherent qualities like easy control of process variables, high quality, deep penetration, smooth finish, capability to weld thicker sections. Since the development of submerged arc welding process, welding engineers are striving for reduction in welding cost without compromise in the performance of the weld. Flux u...

The demand for better control and sensing in welding has increased with automation and welding processes involving new and advanced materials. This requires precise control of the welding process to produce the desired weld with respect to productivity and quality. This papers describes sensors for technological and geometrical parameters for welding process.

This paper develops an automatic welding control scheme for alternating current shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) system. A mathematical model of the welding control system is derived and the system parameters identified. An adaptive sliding mode controller is designed to estimate the bound of the system uncertainties and to modulate the electrode feed rate in such a way that the desired arc le...

Since the control system of the welding gun pose in whole‐position welding is complicated and nonlinear, an intelligent control system of welding gun pose for a pipeline welding robot based on an improved radial basis function neural network (IRBFNN) and expert system (ES) is presented in this paper. The structure of the IRBFNN is constructed and the improved genetic algorithm is a...

Submerged Arc welding process is automated and semiautomated high deposition down hand welding process not vertical or over welding process, The fundamental difference of this welding process is that the Arc is not visible it is submerged into the flux. Weldment is fully submerged the heat loss is minimum and the thermal efficiency is very high up to 80-90%. A constant power sources and control...

Welding is a process during which fumes, gases, electromagnetic radiation and noise are emitted as by-products. Metal oxide particles are particularly hazardous components of welding fumes. Welding has been found to be associated with respiratory symptoms and our objective in the present study was to study the effects of welding on pulmonary function and serum oxidant-antioxidant status. Fifty-...

In this paper, we propose a fuzzy-servoing controller method for automatic welding. The proposed method uses a vision based arc tracking to find the initial points of the weld seam and to track them without a prior knowledge. Due to a serious melt down in the weld pool during the welding process, the method requires to control the welding torch in two directions, up-down and left-right directio...

A system is presented that allows the visualization of the whole welding process. Factors that can lead to bad welds can be monitored. Methods to optimize the welding process are outlined and a possible "on-line control" is discussed. In addition, schemes are presented for the analysis of the welding process to identify defects in the welding equipment that will cause faulty welds.
