We present finite-element analyzes and experimental results to validate our approach for building high-power single-mode Nd:YAG lasers. We show that the thermooptical and thermomechanical properties of a slab laser can be controlled. This is essential for the use of the proposed unstable resonator. We include demonstration of an efficient subscale laser operating at 20 W TEMoo.

We have demonstrated both rise and fall times below 1 s with 10%–90% modulation in a silicon-on-insulator thermooptical Mach–Zehnder switch. The switch is based on 9m-thick and 10m-wide single-mode rib waveguides. Very fast switching was achieved by using a differential control method. The switch was driven with a digital signal processor accompanied by simple electronic circuitry.

Modeling the force of laser pressure on the dynamics of an artificial satellite is studied. The atmospheric effects are taken into consideration. Some important details of the model arising from the thermooptical satellite surface properties are clarified. The model has been exemplified by computing the laser perturbing acceleration for a passive Earth’s satellite (e.g. the satellite Ajisai). T...

The coemulsification method suitable for the formulation of microcapsules of n-eicosane coated with a polysiloxane is developed. This method allows to synthesize core-shell microcapsules of paraffin which have the shape of spheres or distorted spheres and are designed for the use as phase change materials. The microcapsules are formed in aqueous phase by the precipitation of n-eicosane together...
