conclusions bosworth screw and tension band wiring are both useful procedures in patients with acj dislocation, but each should be used in the selected patients with special indications. both methods had good results during follow-up period. there was not statistically meaningful difference in the articular stability, range of motion, oss score and vast score between the two groups (p > 0.05). ...
conclusions in simultaneous bilateral patella fractures, good functional outcome can be expected following a stable surgical fixation and a structured rehabilitation regime. however, personality of the fracture determines salvage versus sacrifice of the patella. case presentation we report a rare case of isolated, traumatic bilateral patella fracture with unusual fracture patterns and briefly r...
Cadaveric experiments in 10 knees were used to study the strength of two methods of internal fixation for a fractured patella. A modified AO tension band technique was compared with the combination of cerclage wiring and a tension band used at Pyrford. The repairs were stressed to failure; the combination of cerclage and tension band wiring proved to be significantly stronger and is recommended.
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to determine whether additional tension band wiring in the plate for traumatic disruption of symphysis pubis has clinical benefits. Therefore, outcomes and complications were compared between a plate fixation group and a plate with tension band wiring group. METHODS We retrospectively evaluated 64 consecutive patients who underwent open reduction and i...
Compression and absolute stability are important in the management of intra-articular fractures. We compared tension band wiring with plate fixation for the treatment of fractures of the olecranon by measuring compression within the fracture. Identical transverse fractures were created in models of the ulna. Tension band wires were applied to ten fractures and ten were fixed with Acumed plates....
PURPOSE To evaluate outcome of percutaneous tension band wiring for transverse fractures of the patella. METHODS 16 men and 7 women aged 27 to 65 (mean, 40) years underwent percutaneous tension band wiring for transverse fractures of the patella with a displacement of >3 mm. Pain, operating time, mobility, functional score, and complications were evaluated. RESULTS 20 patients underwent suc...
BACKGROUND Treatment of acute complete acromioclavicular (AC) dislocation is still controversial. Both non-surgical and surgical methods have been reported with similar results. In addition, once surgical treatment is chosen, a satisfactory surgical technique has not been developed yet. METHODS Sixty consecutive patients who sustained 60 acute complete AC dislocations were treated using corac...
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study is to compare two methods of internal fixations of fractured medial malleolus which are simple screw fixation and tension band wiring. PATIENTS AND METHODS Over 5 years we grouped 20 patients with fractured medial malleolus into two groups of operative treatments, group1 treated by malleolar screw fixation and group2 by tension band wiring. The patients were w...
Aim of the present study was to compare the clinical and radiographic outcome of tension band wiring and precontoured locking compression plate fixation in patients treated surgically for an isolated olecranon fractures type IIA according to the Mayo classification. Of 26 patients presenting with an isolated Mayo type IIA olecranon fracture, 13 underwent fixation with a precontoured locking com...
