objective(s) production of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (esbls) by enteric bacteria continues to be a major problem in hospitals and community. esbls producing bacteria cause many serious infections including urinary tract infections, peritonitis, cholangitis and intra-abdominal abscess. the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of esbls producing escherichia coli and klebsiell...

Introduction & Objective: TEM-1 beta lactamase gene is one of the important plasmidic genes in Enterobacteriaceae which is the cause of over 90% of Escherichia coli isolates resistance to beta lactam antibiotics. In this study, the frequency of TEM-1 gene in nosocomial strains of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterobacter was investigated using PCR. Materials & Methods: In th...

The nucleotide sequences of 59 bla(TEM) genes encoding inhibitor-resistant TEM enzymes showed great genetic variability and were associated with different types of promoters. These findings led us to suggest an updated bla(TEM) gene nomenclature based on the origin of the bla(TEM) gene (bla(TEM-1A), bla(TEM-1B), bla(TEM-1C), bla(TEM-1D), bla(TEM-1E), and bla(TEM-1F)) and the promoter type.

Background & Aim: Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains that were resistance to majority of commonly used antibiotics were caused problem in treatment of these infections. Imipenem is the excessive potential antibiotic for elimination of antibiotic resistance isolates of these bacteria. Aim of this study was, identification of imipenem effect on TEM beta-lactamase gene expression in resistant to antib...

Using an isogenic system, we have determined the impact that the four promoters known to control bla(TEM) gene expression have on beta-lactamase activity. For both TEM-1 and TEM-30, this activity gradually increased in relation to the presence of promoters P3, Pa/Pb, and P4 upstream of the corresponding gene. Promoter P5, only found upstream of the bla(TEM-1B) gene, was related to the highest e...

Background: The isolation of the TEM gene in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli and the antibiotic resistance pattern provides useful information on the epidemiology and factors involved in these infections. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate antibiotic resistance and abundance of a beta-lactamase gene (TEM) in P.aeruginosa and E.coli isolated from clinical specimens by the po...

PURPOSE To explore the role in the eye of tenomodulin (TeM), a chondromodulin (ChM)-I-related glycoprotein, the expression, localization, and antiangiogenic potential of TeM were investigated. METHODS Gene expression and protein localization of TeM in mouse eyes were examined by Northern blot analysis, in situ hybridization, and immunohistochemical analysis. Antiangiogenic function included i...

OBJECTIVES To investigate the diversity of plasmids that carry bla(TEM-52) genes among Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica originating from animals, meat products and humans. METHODS A collection of 22 bla(TEM-52)-encoding plasmids was characterized by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP), replicon typing (by PCR or replicon sequencing), susceptibility testing, assessment of p...

BACKGROUND Penicillinase-producing Neisseria gonorroheae (PPNG) was first isolated in 1976. PPNG strains carrying bla TEM-1 and bla TEM-135 gene have been described in different countries. Recently, a novel bla TEM-220 allele was detected in PPNG isolates carrying Toronto/Rio plasmid. The prevalence and characteristics of TEM-220 strains worldwide are unknown, and therefore, it needs to be stud...

Since the first communication describing an organism that produces an enzyme capable of hydrolyzing extended-spectrum cephalosporins (5, 6), several outbreaks of Enterobacte-riaceae resistant to oxyimino-␤-lactams have been reported. In these cases, the adopted survival strategy of bacteria challenged by the introduction of aztreonam, cefotaxime, ceftazi-dime, and other oxyimino-␤-lactams was t...
