In this paper, we represent an inexact inverse subspace iteration method for computing a few eigenpairs of the generalized eigenvalue problem Ax = Bx [Q. Ye and P. Zhang, Inexact inverse subspace iteration for generalized eigenvalue problems, Linear Algebra and its Application, 434 (2011) 1697-1715 ]. In particular, the linear convergence property of the inverse subspace iteration is preserved.

The power iteration is a classical method for computing the eigenvector associated with the largest eigenvalue of a matrix. The subspace iteration is an extension of the power iteration where the subspace spanned by n largest eigenvectors of a matrix, is determined. The natural power iteration is an exemplary instance of the subspace iteration, providing a general framework for many principal s...

The block preconditioned steepest descent iteration is an iterative eigensolver for subspace eigenvalue and eigenvector computations. An important area of application of the method is the approximate solution of mesh eigenproblems for self-adjoint and elliptic partial differential operators. The subspace iteration allows to compute some of the smallest eigenvalues together with the associated i...

The power of density functional theory is often limited by the high computational demand in solving an eigenvalue problem at each self-consistent-field (SCF) iteration. The method presented in this paper replaces the explicit eigenvalue calculations by an approximation of the wanted invariant subspace, obtained with the help of well-selected Chebyshev polynomial filters. In this approach, only ...

We discuss a novel approach for the computation of a number of eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the standard eigenproblem Ax = x. Our method is based on a combination of the Jacobi-Davidson method and the QR-method. For that reason we refer to the method as JDQR. The eeectiveness of the method is illustrated by a numerical example.

In the simulation of continuous events, such as the ow of a uid through a pipe, or the ow of air around an aircraft, one usually imposes a grid over the area of interest and one restricts oneself to the computation of relevant parameters, for instance the pressure or the velocity of the ow or the temperature, in the gridpoints. Physical laws lead to approximate relations between these parameter...
