Marjolin's ulcer is malignant change in a long-standing ulcer and or scar tissue. Commonly these lesions are treated as chronic ulcers and suspicion of malignancy should be raised with crusting, increase in pain or size of the ulcer and bleeding. We report a case of Marjolin's ulcer arising in a post-traumatic chronic ulcer of sole in a 60-year-old female.
Objectives- To evaluate the most important bovine digital lesions in shahrekord area and its correlation with locomotion scoring. Study Design- Cross- Sectional descriptive study. Animals- five hundred and eighteen cows inspected in two seasons. Methods- Three dairy farms on three scales (1: Large, approximately 900 milking cows, 2: Medium, approximately 100 milking cows, and 3: Small, app...
OBJECTIVE Impaired cellular immunity and reduced phagocytic function of polymorphonuclear leukocytes facilitate the development of skin fungal and bacterial infections due to uncontrolled hyperglycemia in diabetic patients. In our study, we aimed to assess onychomycosis and/or tinea pedis frequency in diabetic patients, and effects on the development of chronic complications, particularly foot ...
A lthough the benefits of total contact casting for healing plantar neuropathic ulcers are consis tent throughout a large body of available literature, the method of cast application varies (1–17). Cast structure at the ulcer site provides one major variance, i.e., should the cast create total contact with the entire plantar surface of the foot or should the wound be isolated? This article aims...
It is generally stated in books on anatomy that sebaceous glands are absent from tlie skin of the palm of the hand and sole of the foot; and in Strieker's Histology it is stated in addition that they are absent from the dorsi of the third phalanges and glans penis. Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare disease and that affecting specifically the sole of the foot, is even rarer. Here, we report the case of a 54-year-old female admitted with a painful ulcer on the sole of the right foot which was initially treated with empirical antibiotics and debridement. The disease was found to spread rapidly after each debridement. The culture reports were negative; rheu...
To investigate the association between locomotion score and types of hoof lesion, cows from 91 selected dairy herds in southern Chile were studied. The locomotion score was recorded for all of the lactating cows (n=10,699). The mean prevalence of lame cows, when all locomotion scores >1 were included was 33.2% in large herds and 28.7% in small herds. There were 39.7%, 42%, 17.9% and 0.4% cows w...
Objective- To investigate and quantitate radiological and clinical changes in tissues and structures of the claws affected by Rusterholz ulcer. Design- Cross-sectional and Descriptive study Animal- Seven culled lame cows were affected with “Rusterholz” ulcer Procedures- Forty one culled lame cows of 1135 culled cows having digital disorders which were randomly selected for clinical and r...
