Aspergillus sellar abscess is a very rare form of fungal infections of the central nervous system (CNS). In this report, we describe the successful treatment of a patient with aspergillus sellar abscess. A 65-year-old woman presented with headache, nasal discharge and decreased visual acuity. The diagnosis of sellar mass was made on the basis of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination. The...

Chondrosarcoma is a mesenchymal tumor composed of tumor cells producing cartilage. It is more common in older age and often affects the axial skeleton. We report a rare case of chondrosarcoma mimicking a sellar and suprasellar mass with parasellar extension. A 40 yr woman presented with decreasing visual acuity and headache. Magnetic resonance (MR) image revealed a cystic sellar and suprasellar...

Apoplexy in sellar metastasis is very rare with only a few case reports in literature. A case of apoplexy in sellar metastasis from follicular thyroid carcinoma is reported and the literature is briefly reviewed. The patient presented with sudden onset headache and bi-lateral loss of vision following thyroidectomy in a case of follicular carcinoma thyroid with proven sellar metastasis. CT scan ...

A 71-year-old male presented with an isolated well-enhanced sellar lesion accompanied by hypopituitarism, diagnosed preoperatively as a pituitary adenoma, meningioma, or metastatic brain tumor. However, histological examinations yielded a diagnosis of neuroblastoma. Primary sellar neuroblastoma in the elderly is very rare. We therefore describe this case of primary sellar neuroblastoma, mimicki...

BACKGROUND Tension pneumocephalus is uncommon after transsphenoidal surgery. There are only few cases reported in the literature in which the air was located at the sellar region exclusively, constituting a sellar pneumocele. In this article, an unusual case of a late onset tension sellar pneumocele is reported. CASE DESCRIPTION A 57-year-old woman consulted because of bitemporal hemianopsia....

Sellar masses are associated most commonly with pituitary adenomas. Many other neoplastic, inflammatory, infectious, and vascular lesions, however, may affect the sellar region and mimic pituitary tumors. These lesions must be considered in a differential diagnosis. This article describes the characteristics of rare sellar masses that provide clues to their differential diagnosis.

BACKGROUND Postoperative sellar hematoma can develop following surgery for pituitary tumors and other sellar masses such a Rathke's cleft cyst (RCC) due to continued blood oozing. Though often mild sellar hematoma can create mass effects that might impair pituitary function. AIM This study summarizes the clinical and biochemical characteristics of sellar hematoma and explores the potential me...

OBJECTIVE Cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea, pneumocephalus and meningitis are serious complications following transsphenoidal excision of sellar, suprasellar and parasellar lesions. This study evaluates the use of a new bioadhesive, Bioglue as an adjunct in reconstructing the sellar floor and preventing CSF fistula and investigates the possible complications associated with its use. METHODS In ...

Though craniopharyngioma remains the most common sellar suprasellar tumor with calcification, it can be seen very rarely in pituitary adenomas and Rathke's cleft cysts. Appreciation of the pattern of calcification in a sellar suprasellar lesion can give a clue to the nature of the lesion. The authors describe a 53-yearold male with a cystic sellar suprasellar lesion and curvilinear calcificatio...
