One of the common approaches for improving the reliability of a specific system is to use parallel redundant components in subsystems. This approach, which is known as the redundancy allocation problem (RAP), includes the simultaneous selection of the component type and its level for each subsystem in order to maximize the system reliability.Traditionally, there are two redundancy strategies, n...

In this paper, an integrated approach is proposed for non-recursive formulation of connection coefficients of different orthogonal functions in terms of a generic orthogonal function. The application of these coefficients arises when the product of two orthogonal basis functions are to be expressed in terms of single basis functions. Two significant advantages are achieved; one, the non-recursi...

In this paper a finite difference method for solving 2-dimensional diffusion equation is presented. The method employs Crank-Nicolson scheme to improve finite difference formulation and its convergence and stability. The obtained solution will be a recursive formula in each step of which a system of linear equations should be solved. Given the specific form of obtained matrices, rather than sol...

The identification of critical periods in early human development requires statistical analyses beyond simple cross tabulation of correlations of observed variables. This paper provides an overview of different quantitative methods available for the statistical analysis of longitudinal data regarding child development, and in particular the identification of critical and sensitive periods for l...

We focus on the development of modular and recursive formulations for the inverse dynamics of parallel architecture manipulators in this paper. The modular formulation of mathematical models is attractive especially when existing sub-models may be assembled to create different topologies, e.g., cooperative robotic systems. Recursive algorithms are desirable from the viewpoint of simplicity and ...

Multiscale methods for second order elliptic equations based on non-overlapping domain decomposition schemes have great potential to take advantage of multi-core, state-of-the-art parallel computers. These typically involve solving local boundary value problems followed by the solution a global interface problem. Known iterative procedures problem slow convergence, increasing overall cost multi...

To obtain a robust version of exponential and Holt-Winters smoothing the idea of M -estimation can be used. The difficulty is the formulation of an easy-to-use recursive formula for its computation. A first attempt was made by Cipra (Robust exponential smoothing, J. Forecast. 11 (1992), 57–69). The recursive formulation presented there, however, is unstable. In this paper, a new recursive compu...

A recently developed spatial operator algebra approach to modeling and analysis of multibody robotic systems is used to develop O(n) recursive algorithms that compute the operational space mass matrix and the operational space coriolis/centrifugal and gravity terms of an n-link serial manipulator. These algorithms enable an O(n) recursive implementation of operational space control.
