Background: HLA compatibility between transplant donor and recipient is one of the major determinants of transplant outcome. Objective: To determine HLA class I by PCR- Sequence-Specific Oligonucleotide Probe (PCR-SSOP) in cord blood donors. Methods: Genomic DNA of 142 cord blood samples registered at the Cord Blood Bank of Iran at Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplantation Researc...
BACKGROUND Drug resistance (DR) of HIV-1 can be examined genotypically or phenotypically. Although sequencing is the gold standard of the genotypic resistance testing (GRT), high-throughput GRT targeted to the codons responsible for DR may be more appropriate for epidemiological studies and public health research. METHODS We used a Japanese database to design and synthesize sequence-specific ...

Two hundred Japanese panels were serologically typed for human leukocyte antigen (HLA) - DR to assign 65 HLA-DR8 haplotypes, which were then subdivided into two genotypes, i.e., DRB1*0802 and DRB1*0803, by a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)--based, simple, and practical method. The panels possessing DR8 specificity were firstly subjected to PCR with a couple of primers specifically to amplify th...
HLA-DRB1 and -DRB3 alleles of DR52-associated (DR52ass) HLA-DR antigens were genotyped by a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) - based simple and practical method. Genomic DNAs from two hundred Japanese panels were subjected to PCR with two pairs of primers to separately amplify the DR52ass-DRB1 (DR3, 5, 6, and 8) alleles and DRB3 (DR52) alleles. The specific amplification revealed that 128 and 76...
PCR-SSOP identification procedures for IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-alpha and TNF-beta cytokine polymorphisms have been developed. Application of the procedures to a range of diverse geographically distributed populations has identified ethnic differences within the groups studied. Five populations were investigated, Northern Ireland, South African Zulu, Omani, Singapore Chinese and Mexican Mestizos.
Background. Microlymphocytotoxicity (MLCT) and flowcytometry (FC) are the conventional serological methods to detect HLA-B* 27. Due to some disadvantages in these methods, most of the HLA laboratories have now switched over to molecular methods. Molecular techniques based on commercial kits are expensive; as such many laboratories with limited funds in developing countries cannot afford these t...
We study a supply chain with one supplier and many retailers that face exogenous endcustomer demands. The supplier and the retailers all try to minimize their own inventory-related costs. In contrast to the retailers’ newsvendor type ordering behavior (under which retailers may place orders freely in every period), we propose two scheduled ordering policies: Scheduled Balanced Ordering Policy (...
FROM STUDIES on tissue-specific expression and interaction with T and NK cells, it was suggested that HLA-G may have an important role in immunologic tolerance. The recognition of HLA-G polymorphism, its association with other classical HLA class I loci, and eventual variation among different populations may prove to be useful in understanding its immunologic functions and evolution of human po...
