Peripheral blood polymorphonuclear leucocytes (PMN) from patients with invasive amoebiasis, i.e. amoebic liver abscess (ALA) and acute amoebic dysentery, showed marked elevation of nitroblue tetrazolium dye (NBT) reduction. This dramatic change was not observed in PMN from patients with non-invasive amoebiasis, i.e. non-suppurative hepatic amoebiasis, or in asymptomatic Entamoeba histolytica cy...

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of the NBT reduction by non- and BCG-stimulated monocytes isolated from peripheral blood persons with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) before treatment, after two-month antituberculosis therapy and in an inactive stage of this disease. MATERIAL AND METHODS The spontaneous and induced NBT tests were done in 24 healthy individuals and 59 pati...

The purpose of the present study is to determine the clinical value of nitroblue tetrazolium reduction test (NBT) to diagnose inflammatory processes in dogs, and compare to white blood cell count (WBC) and concentration of plasma fibrinogen. To this end, we determined the percentage of NBT reducing neutrophils, concentration of plasma fibrinogen and WBC of 242 dogs, including both healthy dogs ...

The biologic basis for the elevated histochemical reduction of nitroblue tetrazolium dye (NBT) in neutrophils from patients with acute bacterial infection or polycythemia vera was studied. A precipitin reaction followed mixing NBT with heparin. NBT was reduced after phagocytosis of this complex (H-NBT) by polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs). Ingestion required divalent cations and was facilitat...

To study the stage of development of oxidase activity responsible for the respiratory burst in human granulocytes. we investigated the effect of phorbol myristate acetate (PMA) and fluoride (F ) on nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction by bone marrow and circulating granulocytic cells in 1 3 subjects without leukocyte functional disorders and a patient with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) ....

The leukocytes of patients with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) may be identified by their failure to reduce Nitro Blue Tetrazolium (NBT) during phagocytosis. This reaction, normally detected in the phagocytic vacuole, is absent or delayed in CGD monocytes and eosinophils as well as in neutrophils, even though sonicates of normal and CGD leukocytes contain equal activities of a cyanide inse...

Nitro blue tetrazolium polyvinyl alcohol film dosimeters, NBT-PVA were prepared and evaluated based on radiation-induced reduction of NBT2þ . NBT-PVA film dosimeters containing different concentrations of NBT dye from 1 to 5 mM were prepared in a solution of ethanol. The dosimeters were irradiated with U-ray from Co source at doses up to 50 kGy. UV/vis spectrophotometer was used to investigate ...

Glycated haemoglobin is a diagnostic tool, used for the monitoring of the glycemic status among diabetic patients. The present study is designed to compare and correlate modified NBT reduction method for the estimation of Glycated protein (Glycated Haemoglobin) with HbA1C estimated on DCA+2000Analyzer. Glycated protein reduces Nitro Blue Tetrazolium (NBT) reagent in alkaline medium to tetrazino...

The reduction of nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) by phagocytic leucocytes in peripheral blood has been examined in rabbits injected intratesticularly with Treponema pallidum, T. pallidum-free supernatant of orchitic testes, or normal rabbit testes supernatant. A significant (P less than 0.01) increase in NBT reduction was observed only in the infected animals.
