We introduce the Conditional Mean Value Analysis (CMVA) algorithm, an exact solution method for product-form load-dependent closed queueing networks that provides a numerically stable solution of models where the load-dependent Mean Value Analysis (MVA) is numerically unstable. Similarly to the MVA algorithm for constant-rate queues, CMVA performs operations in terms of mean quantities only, i....
The present paper deals with the problem of calculating mean delays in polling systems with either exhaustive or gated service. We develop a mean value analysis (MVA) to compute these delay figures. The merits of MVA are in its intrinsic simplicity and its intuitively appealing derivation. As a consequence, MVA may be applied, both in an exact and approximate manner, to a large variety of models.
Several shared memory multiprocessor models using approximate Mean Value Analysis (MVA) have been developed and used to evaluate a number of system architectures. Since this time, the complexity of multiprocessor systems has increased as superscalar processors and latency reduction techniques are employed in these systems. We present an MVA multiprocessor performance model which incorporates th...
Closed Queueing Networks are used in modeling various systems such as FMS, CONWIP Material Control, Computer/Communication Systems, and Health Care. Mean Value Analysis (MVA) is often used to compute the performance measures for these models. For networks with multiple-server stations, the exact MVA algorithm becomes computationally complex and existing approximations introduce high errors. The...
Approximate Mean Value Analysis (MVA) is a popular technique for analyzing queueing networks because of the efficiency and accuracy that it affords. In this paper, we present a new software package, called the Improved Approximate Mean Value Analysis Library (IAMVAL), which can be easily integrated into existing commercial and research queueing network analysis packages. The IAMVAL packages inc...
A new algorithm to solve product form queueing networks, especially those with large numbers of centers and chains, is presented. This algorithm is a Tree version of .Mean Value Analysis (MVA). Tree MVA is analogous to the Tree version of Convolution developed by Lam and Lien Like Tree Convolution, Tree WA allows exact solution of large networks which are intractable with previous sequential al...
Background: Measurements of mitral valve area (MVA) are essential to determine the severity of mitral stenosis (MS) and adopt the best management strategies. The aim of the present study was to compare MVA determined by two-dimensional (2D) planimetry to MVA measured by continuity equation (CE) in patients with moderate to severe MS. Methods: We evaluated 73 consecutive patients with the diagno...
In this paper we apply the high-level modelling language PEPA to the performance analysis of a parallel program with a pipeline skeleton which computes the Mean Value Analysis (MVA) algorithm for queueing networks.
Polling systems with large deterministic setup times find many applications in production environments. The present note studies the delay distribution in exhaustive polling systems when the setup times tend to infinity. Based on the recently proposed mean value analysis (MVA) for polling systems, a novel simple approach is developed to show that the scaled delay distribution converges to a uni...
Distributed systems and web applications play an important role in computer science nowadays. The most common consideration is performance, because these systems must provide services with low response time, high availability, and certain throughput level. With the help of performance models, the performance metrics can be determined at the early stages of the development process. The goal of o...
