Introduction: The Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) is the one of the pathogenic bacteria that become famous and considerable in the recent years. Here we tried to do typing the E. faecalis isolates to provide advantageous information that can help us to understand epidemiological communication between the E. faecalis isolates. Materials and methods: One hundred E. faecalis were isolated fr...
BACKGROUND Chlamydia trachomatis infections remain the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection worldwide. To gain more insight into the epidemiology and transmission of C. trachomatis, several schemes of multilocus sequence typing (MLST) have been developed. We investigated the clustering of C. trachomatis strains derived from men who have sex with men (MSM) and heterosexuals using...
Candida spp. are ubiquitous yeasts commonly. Those are commensally and opportunist pathogens in humans. Candidiasis in immunocompromised patients and patients with severe underlying diseases or critical illnesses need aggressive diagnosis or treatment procedures. Candida albicans (C. albicans) is the most frequently isolated species. For prevention of nosocomial infections caused by C. albicans...
A newly developed oligonucleotide array suited for multilocus sequence typing (MLST) of Staphylococcus aureus strains was analyzed with two strain collections in a two-center study. MLST allele identification for the first strain collection fully agreed with conventional strain typing. Analysis of strains from the second collection revealed that chip-defined MLST was concordant with conventiona...
Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) is a relatively new high-resolution typing system employed for epidemiological studies of bacteria, including Salmonella. Discrimination based on MLST of housekeeping genes may be problematical, due to the high identity of gene sequences of closely related Salmonella species. The presence of genomic sequences derived from stable temperate phages in Salmonella o...
A collection of 101 Leptospira isolates was tested by multilocus sequence typing (MLST) and by traditional serotyping. MLST divided the isolates into 4 sequence types (STs), while serotyping classified them into 6 serogroups. Two isolates failed to generate products for some genes by MLST. MLST was less discriminatory than serotyping for uncommonly occurring isolates from humans in Brazil.
Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) with SmaI were used to subtype 55 isolates of Campylobacter jejuni from a diverse range of human and animal sources previously characterized by multilocus enzyme electrophoresis (MEE). MEE and MLST targeted 11 and 7 loci, respectively, and all loci were unique to each method. MEE, MLST, and PFGE identified 40, 37, and...
Bacteria of the genus Wolbachia are widely distributed in arthropods, particularly ants; nevertheless, it is still little explored with Multilocus Sequence Typing (MLST) methodology, especially Solenopsis, which includes species native to South America. Ants from this have a cosmopolitan way some them being In Brazil, they spread and preferentially associated areas human activity. This study ai...
Several molecular typing schemes have been proposed to differentiate among isolates and clonal groups, and hence establish epidemiological or phylogenetic links. It has been widely accepted that multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) is the gold standard for phylogenetic typing/long-term epidemiological surveillance, but other recently described methods may be easier to carry out, especially in set...
