BACKGROUND M13 bacteriophages can be readily fabricated as nanofibers due to non-toxic bacterial virus with a nanofiber-like shape. In the present study, we prepared hybrid nanofiber matrices composed of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid, PLGA) and M13 bacteriophages which were genetically modified to display the RGD peptide on their surface (RGD-M13 phage). RESULTS The surface morphology and chem...

phage elisa is a common method to confirm binding of obtained phages from phage display technique to related antigens. enzyme-conjugated antibody directed against the major capsid protein (pviii) or enzyme-conjugated secondary antibody against the primary antibody is used as a detection system in phage elisa. we have suggested to express an acid phosphatase (sapm) enzyme on m13 pix minor coat p...

Recently, M13 bacteriophage has started to be widely used as a functional nanomaterial for various electrical, chemical, or optical applications, such as battery components, photovoltaic cells, sensors, and optics. In addition, the use of M13 bacteriophage has expanded into novel research, such as exciton transporting. In these applications, the versatility of M13 phage is a result of its nonto...

gene delivery might be affected by several tribulations based on carrier/vector applied. bacteriophages lambda and m13 have different genome conformations; linear double-stranded and circular single-stranded respectively. therefore, it might be expected that these two common classes of gene delivery vehicles will have different capacity for gene delivery and expression in eukaryote cells. to ad...

Commonly used in biotechnology applications, filamentous M13 phage are non-lytic viruses that infect E. coli and other bacteria, with the potential to promote horizontal gene transfer in natural populations with synthetic biology implications for engineering community systems. Using the E. coli strain TG1, we have investigated how a selective pressure involving elevated levels of toxic chromate...

Using simple design and selective pressure, we have evolved an artificial M13 bacteriophage coat protein. M13 coat proteins first reside in the bacterial inner membrane and subsequently surround the DNA core of the assembled virus. The artificial coat protein (ACP) was designed and evolved to mimic both functions of the natural M13 coat proteins, but with an inverted orientation. ACP is a non-f...

Introduction: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) has been shown to play a critical role in tumor cell growth and its overexpression has been observed in many epithelial tumors. In the field of cancer vaccine research, displaying the peptide mimotope on the surface of phage particles has shown promising results. Methods: In this study using m13-PVIII phage display system, two constructs we...

-Particles of the small filamentous coliphage M13 contain not only the major coat protein, which is the product of phage gene 8, but also a minor coat protein, the A protein, which is the product of gene 3. The A protein has a molecular weight of approximately 70,000 daltons, is present in one copy per virion, and is responsible for phage attachment to host cells. Also associated with purified ...

Hybrids composed of phage M13 and plasmid pHV33 were used to study the formation of deletions in Escherichia coli. Eighty to ninety percent of the deletion endpoints were at the position of the nick introduced into the M13 replication origin by the phage gene II protein. This suggests the existence of a novel mechanism of illegitimate recombination.
