Introduction: The acoustic performance of natural fiber adsorbents has been investigated in numerous studies. A part of these materials show a poor adsorption within the frequency range of less than 1000 Hz. In the present study, attempts were made to investigate the effect of layout sequence of double-layered composites consisting of natural and synthetic fibers on improving the acoustic adsor...

Inspired by the layered hierarchical nano- and microstructures of natural nacre, flattened double-walled carbon nanotube (FDWCNT) reinforced epoxy composites are fabricated. Impressively, the prepared composites exhibit layered structures analogous to nacre, and the FDWCNT loading can reach 70 wt%, which results in superior mechanical properties that evidently outperform other existing materials.

Carbon fiber-reinforced multi-layered pyrocarbon-silicon carbide matrix (C/C-SiC) composites are widely used in aerospace structures. The complicated spatial architecture and material heterogeneity of C/C-SiC composites constitute the challenge for tailoring their properties. Thus, discovering the intrinsic relations between the properties and the microstructures and sequentially optimizing the...

Graphene with ultrahigh intrinsic strength and excellent thermal physical properties has the potential to be used as the reinforcement of many kinds of composites. Here, we show that very high tensile strength can be obtained in the copper matrix composite reinforced by reduced graphene oxide (RGO) when micro-layered structure is achieved. RGO-Cu powder with micro-layered structure is fabricate...

We present results for stiffness and damping prediction in a class of layered, wavy, metal–polymer composites that exceed conventionally published stiffness-damping maps (The Wang–Lakes line, see [14]). These composites are realized by judiciously placing selected, wavy, metal sheets that sandwich an ultra-thin layer of polymer. Stacks of alternating metal–polymer layered composites, when compr...

Ultrasonic polar scans are based on the recording of the reflected or transmitted amplitude of sound, impinging a fiber reinforced composite from every possible angle of incidence. The mechanical anisotropy of such materials makes the reflection coefficient direction dependent, whence an ultrasonic polar scan forms a fingerprint of the investigated material. Such scans have already proved to be...

A fabrication method of a multifunctional hybrid material is achieved by using the insoluble organic nacre matrix of the Haliotis laevigata shell infiltrated with gelatin as a confined reaction environment. Inside this organic scaffold magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) are synthesized. The amount of MNPs can be controlled through the synthesis protocol therefore mineral loadings starting from 15 w...

A simple model of the magnetoelectric (ME) effect in cylindrical layered composites is presented. The cylinder is replaced by the effective layered plate structure with effective length, Leff , thickness t and height h. In the axial coupling mode, the effective magnetic field acts along the length direction (Leff ). However, in the vertical coupling mode, the effective magnetic fields act in tw...
