OBJECTIVE The rate of failed interlock blood alcohol content (BAC) tests is a strong predictor of recidivism post-interlock and a partial proxy for alcohol use. Alcohol biomarkers measured at the start of an interlock program are known to correlate well with rates of failed BAC tests over months of interlock use. This study evaluates 2 methods of measuring low blood levels of the biomarker phos...

Two new benzyl benzoate glycosides were isolated from the leaves and stems of the native North American prairie plant Oligoneuron rigidum (stiff goldenrod). The glycosides were isolated as a mixture of benzoate and acetate esters, which were subjected to mild base hydrolysis to facilitate full structural characterization using LCMSMS and 1D and 2D NMR data.

Opioid analgesics are the most potent pain medications therefore they are often used for the treatment of chronic malignant and non-malignant pain. Their strong addictive potential requires close monitoring of patients on opioid therapy for possible non-compliance with prescriptions, for drug diversion, and for proof of avoidance of non-prescribed or illicit opioids. Monitoring can be performed...

OBJECTIVE To study trough levels of metformin in serum and its intra-individual variation in patients using a newly developed assay. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Trough serum levels of metformin were measured once using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LCMSMS) in 137 type 2 diabetic patients with varying renal function (99 men) and followed repeatedly during 2 months in 20 patie...

The aim of this study was to evaluate whether physical exercise or food deprivation may increase cannabinoid levels in serum or urine in abstinent chronic cannabis users. The study took place in a drug detoxification ward parallel to study participants receiving treatment. Six chronic, daily cannabis users (one female, five males, average age 30.0 years; BMI 20.8) were exposed to a 45-min. mode...

We studied the relationship between sclerotia formation and aflatoxin production by Aspergillusflavus strains isolated from maize kernels from Nandi County. Isolates recovered from maize kernels were tested for their ability to form sclerotia on different growth media. PCR analysis was done on the isolates to detect 2 structural genes, aflD and aflQ, involved in aflatoxin biosynthesis pathway. ...

Methods Homogeneous (Immunalysis), and heterogeneous (Randox; National Medical Services (NMS)) screening assays were evaluated with authentic urine specimens. An LCMSMS qualitative confirmation method for synthetic cannabinoids (JWH-018, JWH-073, JWH-081, JWH-122, JWH-200, JWH-210, JWH-250, AM 2201 and RCS-4) and 20 metabolites in human urine was developed. Specimens were hydrolyzed and protein...
