Use of neuraxial block in a patient with severe kyphoscoliosis is controversial. We describe the anaesthetic management by spinal anaesthesia of a parturient with severe kyphoscoliosis in obstructed labour. The perioperative course was uneventful. We suggest that a patient with severe kyphoscoliosis may be successfully managed by spinal anaesthesia for caesarean section.

Gallbladder torsion is a rare entity. Recently, laparoscopic cholecystectomy has become accepted as a standard operation for gallbladder torsion. Unfortunately, kyphoscoliosis is a risk factor of gallbladder torsion, and kyphoscoliosis results in a low-lying costal arch and disturbs the laparoscopic view. The present paper reports a new surgical procedure, a "rib-lifting method" for retracting ...

Eleven subjects with non-paralytic and 10 with paralytic kyphoscoliosis and nine normal control subjects were studied during sleep. The Cobb angle of those with kyphoscoliosis varied from 600 to 1400 (median 100°) and the vital capacity varied from 17% to 56% (median 28%) of the value predicted on the basis of span. Recordings made during sleep included expired carbon dioxide tension at the nos...

Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) assists breathing and thus improves oxygenation in patients with Kyphoscoliosis. The benefits of short- and long-term intermittent nocturnal in such patients have been reported previously (improvement of vital capacity, total lung capacity, muscle strength, daytime oxygenation, exercise capacity, and pulmonary hypertension). We review this important study reportin...
