This paper describes research in the use of The Java 2Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) for live multimedia streaming approach for 4G networks. This paper introduces the structure of our J2ME computer vision library. A Midlet deployment is presented. The J2ME Wireless Toolkit provides a compiling and testing environment for developing applications for CLDC/MIDP compliant mobile phones.
This paper discusses how a Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) application may be developed to visualise a wide variety of differing fractal types on a mobile phone. A limited number of J2ME applications are available that are capable of generating the Mandelbrot Set. At present there are no J2ME applications capable of generating a multitude of fractal image types.
1 This work was supported in part by the State Committee of Scientific Research, Poland (Grant 8 T10C 011 21”) Abstract: The article discusses the new prospects for the distributed measurement systems (DMS) introduced by the Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) programming technology embedded in portable information devices such as mobile phones. A brief comparison with existing solutions is presented, ...
Application development for mobile devices has been very challenging. Distributed applications for mobile devices should have uninterrupted data access. Though most of the mobile phones have CLDC configuration, Java provides no standard JDBC driver and API for mobile devices with CLDC configuration. Relational database in J2ME can be used with some currently available DBMSs and frameworks. But ...
The Gaia ubiquitous computing platform currently supports mobile devices through a thin client proxy architecture. Mobile devices run a lightweight proxy client written in J2ME to join an active space. While this approach allows a wide variety of devices to interact with active spaces, it lacks the ability to use device specific functionality. This problem is addressed by combining the J2ME cli...
The GPS (Global Positioning System) is currently the most favoured tool for location determination and navigation. Combined with mobile phones, it has gained rapid acceptance among the wider community. The integration of mobile phones and GPS receivers has provided a very powerful tool with great potential for devolvement into future mobile applications. The proposed “GlobeTracker” system explo...
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a way to carry out a telephonic conversation over a data network. VoIP applications, with SIP and RTP, promise converged telecommunications and data services that are cheaper, more versatile and provide good voice quality as compared to traditional offerings. Although VoIP is widely used, VoIP on mobile devices is still in its infancy. Currently, there are...
The recent development of software platforms for cell phones and handheld computers, such as Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME), has broadened application perspectives in this area. In fact, the developers can now write their own software to run in handheld devices, what was impossible a short time ago since the software and the platforms were proprietary. Among the myriad of applications for these de...
A new acceleration technology for Java embedded virtual machines is presented in this paper. Based on the selective dynamic compilation technique, this technology addresses the J2ME/CLDC (Java 2 Micro Edition for Connected Limited Device Configuration) platform. The primary objective of our work is to come up with an efficient, lightweight and low-footprint accelerated embedded Java Virtual Mac...
