This study aimed at examining the main and interaction effects of increased intentional reasoning demands, planning time, and also language learning aptitude on syntactic complexity, accuracy, lexical complexity, and fluency (CALF) of 226 EFL learners’ performance on letter writing tasks. The participants were first randomly assigned to three experimental groups to be given a task with differin...
Intentional reasoning is also logical reasoning. Since it is a dynamic process that involves reasoning from beliefs, goals and time, it requires both a temporal semantics and a non-monotonic behavior. In this work we propose a model of intentional reasoning as a case of nonmonotonic reasoning. We also show the consistency and soundness of the system.
The authors tested the hypothesis of a close relationship between the intentional component of task-set switching ("advance reconfignration;" R. D. Rogers & S. Monsell, 1995) and long-term memory (LTM) retrieval. Consistent with this hypothesis, switch costs are reported to be larger when the switched-to task involves high retrieval demands (i.e., retrieval of episodic information) than when it...

in a speech community, people utilize their communicative competence which they have acquired from their society as part of their distinctive sociolinguistic identity. they negotiate and share meanings, because they have commonsense knowledge about the world, and have universal practical reasoning. their commonsense knowledge is embodied in their language. thus, not only does social life depend...
In this paper a temporal trace language is defined in which formulae can be expressed that provide an external temporal grounding of intentional notions. Justifying conditions are presented that formalise criteria that a (candidate) formula must satisfy in order to qualify as an external representation of a belief, desire or intention. Using these conditions, external represenation formulae for...
With the aim of understanding how different mental or intentional states are processed in the brain, the present functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study examined the brain correlates during the ascription of belief intentional states relative to desire intentional states as well as the effect of incongruent relative to congruent intentional states. To this end, sentences containing s...
In this paper a temporal trace language is defined in which statements can be expressed that provide an external temporal grounding of intentional notions. Justifying conditions are presented that formalise criteria that a (candidate) statement must satisfy in order to qualify as an external representation of a belief, desire or intention. Using these conditions, external representation stateme...
