The present studies were undertaken to analyze the factors regulating 3-hydroxycinnamic acid-induced apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. Treatment of human cervix HeLa cells with 3-hydroxycinnamic acid induced apoptosis and G0/G1-phase arrest. The percentage of apoptosis induced by 3-hydroxycinnamic acid in HeLa cells was increased with incubation time. The results also demonstrated that 3-hydroxy...

Hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives are important class of polyphenolic compounds originated from the Mavolanate-Shikimate biosynthesis pathways in plants. Several simple phenolic compounds such as cinnamic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, caffeic acid, chlorgenic acid, and rosmarinic acid belong to this class. These phenolic compounds possess potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory propertie...

The wound-activated biosynthesis of phytoalexin hydroxycinnamic acid amides of tyramine was compared in untransformed and transgenic tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) lines that express tryptophan decarboxylase (TDC), tyrosine decarboxylase (TYDC), or both activities. Transgenic in vitro-grown tobacco lines expressing TDC activity accumulated high levels of tryptamine but not hydroxycinnamic amides o...

Three hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives conjugated with glycine-containing oxazole were synthesized. The prepared compounds were tested for their antioxidant activity using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) test. Among the tested hydroxycinnamic acid amides the highest DPPH scavenging activity has been found for the sinapic acid amide.

The metabolism of hydroxycinnamic acids by strictly heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria (19 strains) was investigated as a potential alternative energy route. Lactobacillus curvatus PE5 was the most tolerant to hydroxycinnamic acids, followed by strains of Weissella spp., Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus fermentum, and Leuconostoc mesenteroides, for which the MIC values were the same. Th...

Hydroxycinnamic acids and flavonoids are dietary phenolic antioxidants that are abundant in our diet. Hydroxycinnamic acids are highly sulfated in vivo, and sulfotransferases (SULTs), in particular SULT1A1, play a major role in their metabolism. Flavonoids are potent inhibitors of human SULTs. In this study, the potential metabolic interaction between dietary hydroxycinnamic acids and flavonoid...

For Bradyrhizobium japonicum, the chemotactic and the nod gene-inducing effects of hydroxycinnamic acids and two of their derivatives were compared with those of isoflavonoids. Only the hydroxycinnamic acids were strong chemoattractants, while the other substances tested were chemotactically inactive. Besides the known nod gene induction by isoflavonoids, a weak nod gene induction by coniferyl ...

using hplc, the seasonal changes in the phenolic compound content of the leaves ofthe gemlik olive cultivar (olea europaea l) has been investigated with respect to theeffects on the alternate bearing of the cultivar. for this purpose, the leaf concentrations ofoleuropein, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, 3-hydroxycinnamic acid, scopolin and pcoumaricacid were analyzed at 10 day intervals around ...

Seven strains of Lactobacillus isolated from malt whisky fermentations and representing Lactobacillus brevis, L. crispatus, L. fermentum, L. hilgardii, L. paracasei, L. pentosus, and L. plantarum contained genes for hydroxycinnamic acid (p-coumaric acid) decarboxylase. With the exception of L. hilgardii, these bacteria decarboxylated p-coumaric acid and/or ferulic acid, with the production of 4...

Hydroxycinnamic acids are the most widely distributed phenolic acids in plants. Broadly speaking, they can be defined as compounds derived from cinnamic acid. They are present at high concentrations in many food products, including fruits, vegetables, tea, cocoa, and wine. A diet rich in hydroxycinnamic acids is thought to be associated with beneficial health effects such as a reduced risk of c...
