The concept of Resonance Assisted Hydrogen Bond (RAHB), which usually occurs in b diketons, has a remarkable role in chemistry. These molecules, which contain heteroatom particularly O and N, are species with biological interest in protein folding and DNA pairing. Therefore, the amplification of hydrogen bonds strength by substituents may be important in life scie...

In this work, we analyze a series of o-hydroxyaryl aldehydes to discuss the interrelation between the resonance-assisted hydrogen bond (RAHB) formation and the aromaticity of the adjacent aromatic rings. As compared to the nonaromatic reference species (malonaldehyde), the studied compounds can be separated into two groups: first, the set of systems that have a stronger RAHB than that of the re...
The paper deals with the use of isotope effects on chemical shifts in characterizing intramolecular hydrogen bonds. Both so-called resonance-assisted (RAHB) and non-RAHB systems are treated. The importance of RAHB will be discussed. Another very important issue is the borderline between "static" and tautomeric systems. Isotope effects on chemical shifts are particularly useful in such studies. ...
Halogen bonds are shown to possess the same characteristics as hydrogen bonds: charge transfer, resonance assistance and cooperativity. This follows from the computational analyses of the structure and bonding in N-halo-base pairs and quartets. The objective was to achieve an understanding of the nature of resonance-assisted halogen bonds (RAXB): how they resemble or differ from the better unde...
Path integral molecular dynamics and experimental NMR data are used to investigate resonance-assisted hydrogen bonds (RAHBs). When nuclear delocalisation is included in chemical shift calculations, the agreement with experiment is excellent, while static calculations show very poor performance. The results support the concept of RAHB, which has recently been questioned.
The nature of resonance-assisted hydrogen bonds (RAHB) is still subject of an ongoing debate. We therefore analyzed the σ and π charge redistributions associated with the formation of intramolecular hydrogen bonds in malonaldehyde (MA) and its saturated analogue 3-hydroxypropanal (3-OH) and addressed the question whether there is a resonance assistance phenomenon in the sense of a synergistic i...
Heteroatom-doped carbon materials have been one of the most remarkable families of materials with promising applications in fuel cells, supercapacitors, and batteries. Among them, conjugated polymer (CP)-derived heteroatom-doped carbon materials exhibit remarkable electrochemical performances because the heteroatoms can be preserved at a relatively high content and keep stable under harsh worki...
