To get deeper insight into the effect of high pressure high temperature (HPHT) processing on the volatile fraction of carrots, differently coloured cultivars exhibiting orange, purple, red and yellow hues were investigated. The impact of HPHT sterilisation was compared with thermal sterilisation based on equivalent microbiological inactivation. The results of this study demonstrated HPHT steril...
This work investigates chemical changes during shelf-life of thermally and high pressure high temperature (HPHT) sterilised carrot purees using a 'fingerprinting kinetics' approach. Fingerprinting enabled selection of Strecker aldehydes, terpenes, phenylpropanoids, fatty acid derivatives and carotenoid degradation products as volatiles clearly changing during shelf-life. Next, kinetic modelling...
Reservoirs with high pressures and temperatures (HPHT) that were considered to be atypical in the past are now frequent targets for exploration. For downhole oilfield drilling tools and components, the temperature and pressure affect the mechanical strength. To address this issue, a finite element analysis (FEA) for 206.84 MPa (30 ksi) pressure and 165°C has been performed on the pressure housi...
The first application of the high-pressure-high-temperature (HPHT) technique for direct production of doped ultrasmall diamonds starting from a one-component organic precursor is reported. Heavily boron-doped diamond nanoparticles with a size below 10 nm are produced by HPHT treatment of 9-borabicyclo [3,3,1]nonane dimer molecules.
High-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) nanodiamonds originate from grinding of diamond microcrystals obtained by HPHT synthesis. Here we report on a simple two-step approach to obtain as small as 1.1 nm HPHT nanodiamonds of excellent purity and crystallinity, which are among the smallest artificially prepared nanodiamonds ever shown and characterized. Moreover we provide experimental evidence of...
In this paper we report on the positron lifetime results obtained for brown and colourless natural diamond. Optical effects of the observed vacancy defects in brown, high pressure, high temperature (HPHT) treated colourless and naturally colourless type IIa diamond samples were studied by combining the positron measurement with monochromatic illumination. Brown diamond was found to contain opti...
For the first time in literature, this study compares the process-induced chemical reactions in three industrially relevant green vegetables: broccoli, green pepper and spinach treated with thermal and high pressure high temperature (HPHT) processing. Aiming for a fair comparison, the processing conditions were selected based on the principle of equivalence. A comprehensive integration of MS-ba...
The operational characteristics of capacitor-type detectors based on HPHT and CVD diamond have been investigated using perpendicular and parallel injection of carrier domain regimes. Simulations of the drift-diffusion current transients have been implemented by using dynamic models based on Shockley-Ramo's theorem, under injection of localized surface domains and of bulk charge carriers. The bi...
Because of technique difficulties in achieving the extreme high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) simultaneously, direct observation of the structures of carbon at extreme HPHT conditions has not been possible. Banhart and Ajayan discovered remarkably that carbon onions can act as nanoscopic pressure cells to generate high pressures. By heating carbon onions to approximately 700 degrees C an...
Diamond nanocrystals were synthesized catalyst-free from nanoporous carbon at high pressure and high temperature (HPHT). The synthesized nanocrystals have tunable diameters between 50 and 200 nm. The nanocrystals are dispersible in organic solvents such as acetone and are isotropic in nature as seen by dynamic light scattering.
