The GAGE-1 gene was identified previously as a gene that codes for an antigenic peptide, YRPRPRRY, which was presented on a human melanoma by HLA-Cw6 molecules and recognized by a clone of CTLs derived from the patient bearing the tumor. By screening a cDNA library from this melanoma, we identified five additional, closely related genes named GAGE-2-6. We report here that further screening of t...

GAGE proteins are highly similar, primate-specific molecules with unique primary structure and undefined cellular roles. They are restricted to cells of the germ line in adult healthy individuals, but are broadly expressed in a wide range of cancers. In a yeast two-hybrid screen we identified the metazoan transcriptional regulator, Germ cell-less (GCL), as an interaction partner of GAGE12I. GCL...

We used GAGE as a molecular marker to identify melanoma cells with metastatic potential in the peripheral blood and the bone marrow. One hundred thirty-three patients with malignant melanoma (21 clinical stage II, 74 stage III, and 38 stage IV) had a single marrow and/or blood sample drawn immediately prior to surgical resection. Simultaneous bone marrow and blood samples (85 patients), marrow-...

We explored the use of multiple molecular markers to overcome tumor heterogeneity. Sixty-seven neuroblastoma (NB) tumors were tested for the expression of GAGE, MAGE-1, MAGE-2, MAGE-3, and MAGE-4 by reverse transcription-PCR. Eighty-two percent of 67 NB tumors had detectable GAGE, and 88% expressed at least one of the four MAGE genes. By combining GAGE and MAGE, we found that 64 of 67 (95%) of ...

This paper describes a new signal-conditioning technique for measuring strain and temperature which uses fewer connecting wires than conventional techniques. Simultaneous measurement of temperature and strain has been achieved by using thermocouple wire to connect strain gages to signal conditioning. This signal conditioning uses a new method for demultiplexing sampled analog signals and the An...

The mRNA expression of the tumor-associated antigens MAGE and GAGE was examined in 60 high-grade brain tumors. This analysis was performed by using reverse transcription-PCR, Southern blotting, and sequencing. It was demonstrated that, of the eight GAGE genes, GAGE-2 and -7 were expressed in five of seven normal brains. Four groups of tumors--adult glioblastoma multiforme (n = 20), pediatric gl...

As web-based transactions become an essential element of everyday corporate and commerce activities, it becomes increasingly important that the performance of web-based services be predictable and guaranteed even in the presence of wildly fluctuating input loads. In this paper, we propose a general implementation framework to provide quality of service (QoS) guarantee for cluster-based Internet...

A broad range of investigations has been carried out to suggest that the facet joint capsule is a source of neck pain and the pain may arise from large strain in the cervical facet capsule that will cause pain receptors to fire. So far, no direct methods to in vivo test the cervical facet capsule strain during rearend crashes have been known. To solve this methodology problem, a special liquid ...
