background: based on biochemical properties, enterobacter cloacae represents a large complex of at least 13 variant species, subspecies, and genotypes that progressively identified as the most species causing hospital-acquired infections. the aim of this study was to determine the relevance between phylogenetically related strains within the e. cloacae complex and the frequency of urinary tract...

background and objectives: the emergence of plasmid-mediated ampc (pampc) β-lactamases conferring resistance to third-generation cephalosporins has become a major clinical concern worldwide. the aims of this study were to determine the prevalence of pampc-producing e. cloacae isolates and typing of them in qazvin and tehran provinces, iran. materials and methods: a total of 120 cefoxitin non-su...

OBJECTIVE The emergence of ESBL producing Enterobacter cloacae in clinical isolates is posing a serious threat for treating nosocomial infections. The aim of the study was to determine the frequency of extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) producing Enterobacter cloacae and to compare the phenotypic methods used for the characterization of ESBL producing strains. METHODOLOGY This cross section...

The case is reported of a patient who developed a vertebral osteomyelitis caused by Enterobacter cloacae. The organism was isolated in cultures of blood and vertebral puncture biopsy samples. The patient was satisfactorily treated with trimethroprim and sulphamethoxazole. Enterobacter cloacae, a Gram negative organism, has been confirmed as the cause of bacteremia in patients with burns, urinar...

Strain WCHECl-C4 of the Enterobacter cloacae complex, recovered from the blood of a patient with peritonitis, was high-level resistant to colistin. Here, we report its 5.1-Mb draft genome sequence, comprising 92 contigs with an average 55.74% G+C content. The genome contained 4,783 coding sequences and 68 tRNA genes.

PCR analysis of tRNA intergenic spacer (tDNA-PCR) and of the 16S-23S internal transcribed spacer (ITS-PCR) and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis were evaluated for their usefulness in characterization of Enterobacter cloacae strains isolated from both clinical origins and vaccine microbial contamination. tDNA-PCR presented specific and reproducible patterns for Enterobacter sakaz...

Previous studies have shown that the members of the Enterobacter cloacae complex are difficult to differentiate with biochemical tests and in phylogenetic studies using multilocus sequence analysis, strains of the same species separate into numerous clusters. There are only a few complete E. cloacae genome sequences and very little knowledge about the mechanism of pathogenesis of E. cloacae on ...

Enterobacter cloacae is a common member of the gut microbiota in healthy individuals. However, it is also an opportunistic pathogen, capable of causing bacteremia. We report the draft genomes of two Enterobacter cloacae subspecies cloacae strains isolated from hematology patients with bacteremia. Both isolates carry genes encoding extended-spectrum β-lactamases.

In a hematology unit in the Netherlands, the incidence of ciprofloxacin-resistant Enterobacter cloacae and Escherichia coli increased from from 1996 to 1999. Clonal spread of single genotypes of both ciprofloxacin-resistant E. coli and Enterobacter cloacae from patient to patient was documented by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis and random amplification of polymorphic DNA. In addition, genetic...
