Very often electroless electrolytes contribute to wastewater treatment problems. These electrolytes are used in electroless plating processes, which contain a variety of chemicals to meet special surface treatment requirements. Metal salts produce the base material for metal deposition and hypophosphite is delivering the electrons for the metal reduction process – it is basically the internal e...

By simply supporting carbon nanotubes with a metal substrate of a redox potential lower than that of the metal ions to be reduced into nanoparticles, we have developed a facile yet versatile and effective substrate-enhanced electroless deposition (SEED) method for functionalizing nanotubes with a large variety of metal nanoparticles, including those otherwise impossible by more conventional ele...

The paper discusses optimising work on a method of processing ceramic / metal composite coatings for various applications and is based on preliminary work on processing anodes for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The composite coating is manufactured by the electroless co-deposition of nickel and yttria stabilised zirconia (YSZ) simultaneously on to a ceramic substrate. The effect on coating cha...

The importance of microscopic morphological control to metal electroand electroless deposition in several emerging technologies is discussed. The use of in situ optical probes of the morphological development of deposits is described. A number of these are reviewed to describe both the potential of each method and the available literature on studies of electroand electroless deposition. Include...

Well-defined monohydride-terminated n-Si(111) electrodes were used to study electrodeposition of Pb and Cu as well as electroless Au deposition on these surfaces. With classical electrochemical methods, in-situ STM, ex-situ AFM, SEM and in-situ SXRD, the initial stages of metal deposition and the epitaxial properties of the metal deposit were investigated. © 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. Carbon nanotube paper, sometimes referred to as bucky paper, is a random arrangement of carbon nanotubes meshed into a single robust structure, which can be manipulated with relative ease. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes were used to make the nanotube paper, and were subsequently modified with platinum using an electroless deposition method based on substrate enhanced electroless deposition. This...

A low-cost, solution-processed, versatile, microfluidic approach is developed for patterning structures of highly conductive metals (e.g., copper, silver, and nickel) on chemically modified flexible polyethylene terephthalate thin films by in situ polymer-assisted electroless metal deposition. This method has significantly lowered the consumption of catalyst as well as the metal plating solution.

This work describes newly structured stacked silicon nanowires (s-SiNWs), consisting of nanosized silicon wires on top of silicon microrods (SiMRs) and exhibiting pronouncedly superior electron field emission (EFE) characteristics to the conventional SiNWs, by using a two-step electroless metal deposition process. Experimental results indicate that for these s-SiNWs, the electrostatic "screen e...

A scalable, low-cost process for fabricating copper-based microwave components on flexible, paper-based substrates is demonstrated. An inkjet printer is used to deposit a catalyst-bearing solution (tailored for such printing) in a desired pattern on commercially-available, recyclable, non-toxic (Teslin®) paper. The catalystbearing paper is then immersed in an aqueous copper-bearing solution to ...

Fully spectroscopic x/γ-ray imaging is now possible thanks to advances in the growth of wide-bandgap semiconductors. One of the most promising materials is cadmium zinc telluride (CdZnTe or CZT), which has been demonstrated in homeland security, medical imaging, astrophysics and industrial analysis applications. These applications have demanding energy and spatial resolution requirements that a...
