Background: Pseudomonas protein expression in E. coli is known to be a setback due to signifi cant genetic variation and absence of several genetic elements in E. coli for regulation and activation of Pseudomonas proteins. Modifi cations in promoter/repressor system and shuttle plasmid maintenance have made the expression of stable and active Pseudomonas protein possible in bot...

Seeding is a versatile method for optimizing crystal growth. Coupling this technique with capillary counter diffusion crystallization enhances the size and diffraction quality of the crystals. In this article, crystals for organic solvent-tolerant recombinant elastase strain K were successfully produced through microseeding with capillary counter-diffusion crystallization. This technique improv...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO mutants defective in elastase were isolated by plate assays of nitrosoguanidine-mutagenized clones. A total of 75 elastase mutants were isolated from 43,000 mutagenized clones. One mutant (PAO-E64) was apparently identical to the parental strain except for its deficiency in elastase activity. This mutant produced an enzyme which was antigenically indistinguishable fro...

Background and Objective: According to definition of probiotics by WHO/FAO that is “Live microorganisms which, when present in sufficient amount, confer beneficial effects to the host”. Saccharomyces cerevisiae is the first non-pathogenic yeast which is known as a probiotic for humans that its helpful effects for humankind has been proved. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most ...

The dynamic stiffness (H), damping coefficient (G), and harmonic distortion (k(d)) characterizing tissue nonlinearity of lung parenchymal strips from guinea pigs were assessed before and after treatment with elastase or collagenase between 0.1 and 3.74 Hz. After digestion, data were obtained both at the same mean length and at the same mean force of the strip as before digestion. At the same me...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa veterinary isolates were assayed for elastase and total matrix protease activity. The elastase activity of canine ear isolates was much less than that of strain PAO1 and that of all other veterinary isolates (P < 0.0001). The results indicate that canine ear isolates have a distinct elastase phenotype.

Streptococcus pneumoniae contains an inhibitor of human neutrophil elastase. The agent does not inhibit other proteases, including neutrophil cathepsin G and pancreatic elastase. It is active in the presence of insoluble elastin as well as synthetic elastase substrates. The inhibitor is present in the pneumococcal cell membrane. [125I]elastase binding studies and inhibition experiments with int...

Elastin is a structural protein that provides resilience to biological tissues. We examined the contributions of elastin to the quasi-static tensile response of porcine medial collateral ligament through targeted disruption of the elastin network with pancreatic elastase. Elastase concentration and treatment time were varied to determine a dose response. Whereas elastin content decreased with i...
