Primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH) is a rare disease which usually presents with shortness of breath. We report a case of a female patient who presented with dyspnoea. We diagnosed her as a case of PPH on the basis of detailed history, careful physical examination and common investigations like electrocardiogram (ECG), chest radiography and Doppler echocardiograhy.
e know that the risk of stroke is increased in patients with trial fibrillation (AF), presumably because stagnant blood ow within the left atrium leads to thrombus formation. mportantly, 90% of thrombi, when seen by echocardiograhy in patients with nonrheumatic AF, are located in the eft atrial appendage (LAA) (1,2). Standard treatment of atients with AF is anticoagulation with warfarin. If war...
introduction: iatrogenic aortocoronary dissection (acd) is a nightmare in interventional cardiology. although acd is rarely reported, the real-world prevalence is suspected of being higher due to unreported cases. the right coronary artery (rca) ostium is involved in the majority of cases, and dissections are usually limited to the aortic sinus in half of the clinical presentations. there are d...
We read the article entitled “Importance of epicardial adipose tissue thickness measurement in obese adolescents, its relationship with carotid intima-media thickness, and echocardiographic findings” by Boyraz et al with interest1. They found a close relationship between epicardial adipose tissue thickness and some echocardiograhic parameters in obese adolescents to early detection of cardiac d...
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Today, the transcatheter treatment of atrial septal defects using an occluding device is a safe and effective therapeutic approach. Recently, intracardiac echocardiography has been developed as an alternative to transesophageal echocardiography for guiding these procedures. We describe our experience with intracardiac echocardiography during the percutaneous closure ...
Right-to-Left Shunt in CADASIL Patients: A Comorbidity Factor? To the Editor: In 2001 Angeli et al1 reported a remarkably high prevalence of right to left shunt (RLS) in a single CADASIL pedigree, suggesting “a possible association between CADASIL and RLS”. Surprisingly, and notwithstanding the large volume of data building up on CADASIL pathogenesis and diagnosis, no further data has followed ...
Established normal values are necessary for the identification of pathological cardiac diameters as determined by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) and important for follow-up studies. We have compared normal diameters for left atrium (LA) and ventricle (LV) between two-dimensional echocardiography (Echo) and CMR using TrueFISP in subjects with no cardiac pathology. Methods: 24 patients (...
