A direct method is described, in which a single reagent is used without deproteinization, for measuring blood urea nitrogen (BUN) in serum. The reagent is a mixture of diacetylmonoxime, antipyrine (phenazone), and arsenic pentoxide in acid solution. Lipemia, bilirubin to 25 mg/100 ml, hemoglobin to 1g/100 ml, and protein to 20g/100 ml do not affect the results. Beer’s law is followed at 460 nm ...

A novel and efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of N,N-dialkylamino-O-alkyl-2-(1-methyl-2-oxopropylidene)phosphorohydrazido oximes 5. The reactions involve the condensation of diacetylmonoxime and N,N-dialkylamino-O- alkylphosphorohydrazides in the presence of activated silica and give the corresponding target oximes in excellent yields under mild conditions.

Urea in biological fluids has been determined by a variety of direct and indirect procedures. Some indirect methods depend on the hydrolysis of urea with the enzyme urease to form ammonia, with subsequent quantitation of the ammonia by nesslerization (1-4). Undesirable features of these indirect methods are the use of relatively unstable reagents and loss of ammonia during the procedure. Direct...

A simple method is described for directly determining serum urea nitrogen, wtihout deproteinization. The urea in 20 Ml of serum or plasma is reacted with diacetylmonoxime in the presence of thiosemicarbazide and cadmium ion under acid conditions. The absorbance of the resulting rose-purple solution is measured at 540 nm. Results agreed excellently with those obtained by a reference method that ...

Studies of the passive mechanical properties of cardiac tissue have traditionally been conducted at subphysiological temperatures and various concentrations of extracellular Ca(2+) ([Ca(2+)](o)). More recently, the negative inotropic agent 2,3-butanedione monoxime (BDM) has been used. However, there remains a lack of data regarding the influence of temperature, Ca(2+), and BDM on the passive me...

A simple and derivative spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of mercury (II) using Diacetylmonoxime benzoylhydrazone (DMBH). Mercury (II) forms an orange coloured water soluble complex with the reagent in basic medium (pH 10.5).The molar absorptivity and Sandell’s sensitivity of coloured species are 2.01 x 10 L.mol cm and 0.0099 μg/cm respectively. Beer’s law is ob...

A method is described for the direct colorimetric determination of urea in biological fluids. The method depends on the reaction (first described by Wheatley, 1948) between urea, diacetylmonoxime, and phenylanthranilic acid in the presence of controlled amounts of oxidant; chloride ions are included to sensitize the reaction; manganous ions stabilize the resultant colour; and phosphate enables ...
