This research demonstrates a simple method for synthesizing titanium dioxide nanoparticle-decorated carbon nanofibers. These nanofibers showed highly efficient degradation of methylene blue under UV light because of the synergistic effects of the large surface-active sites of titanium dioxide nanoparticles and the carbon nanofibers on the photocatalytic properties.

This photocatalytic conversion of carbon dioxide laboratory experiment is designed for an advanced undergraduate chemistry or chemical engineering majors laboratory course. It introduces the science of emerging sustainable energy technologies through hands-on experimentation. By photo-irradiating a glass flask containing water, catalyst, and carbon dioxide, students explore the potential of new...

Abstract Recently alcohol fuel cells has been increased consideration because of their environmental friendliness, high energy conversion efficiency and low emissions. Many effort have been made to improve the electro-oxidation performance of alcohols such as methanol, ethanol and propanol. In this work, a new method for ethanol oxidation based on core–shell titanium dioxide / carbon nanofib...

Titanium dioxide-polyaniline/polyamide 6 (TiO(2)-PANI/PA6) composite nanofibers were prepared by in situ polymerization of aniline in the presence of PA6 nanofibers and a sputtering-deposition process with a high purity titanium sputtering target. TiO(2)-PANI/PA6 composite nanofibers and PANI/PA6 composite nanofibers were fabricated for ammonia gas sensing. The ammonia sensing behaviors of the ...

Strong adsorption of pollutants on activated carbon may inhibit their diffusion to the catalyst on the surface of the adsorbent and hence reduce he whole photocatalytic process. Oxidation of the carbon surface will change the adsorption properties of the carbon; and increase the capability of arbon surface to carry more titanium dioxide. In this work, activated carbon was oxidized with differen...

The present work was targeted to design a surface against cell seeding and adhering of bacteria, Bacillus subtilis. A multi-walled carbon nanotube/titanium dioxide nano-power was produced via simple mixing of carbon nanotube and titanium dioxide nanoparticles during the sol-gel process followed by heat treatment. Successfully, quercetin was immobilized on the nanocomposite via physical adsorpti...

Doping of titanium dioxide nanofibers by silver nanoparticles revealed distinct improvement in the photocatalytic activity; however other influences have not been investigated. In this work, effect of sliver-doping on the crystal structure, the nanofibrous morphology as well as the photocatalytic activity of titanium oxide nanofibers has been studied. Silver-doped TiO2 nanofibers having differe...
