Nanofibrous hydrogel microspheres are formed by pH gelation of perylene diimide derivatives in emulsion droplets. These microspheres are freeze-dried and subsequently carbonized to produce discrete N-doped nanofibrous carbon microspheres. The carbon microspheres show high performance as electrode materials for supercapacitors.
The reactions were performed to synthesize carbon materials using wheat straw powder as raw material. The wheat straw powder was first hydrolyzed at the absence of a catalyst at 190 °C for 1 h, then the hydrolyzate solution was used as carbon source to prepare carbon materials via hydrothermal carbonization at 180 °C in the absence of a catalyst for 8 h. The influence of solid-liquid-ratio of w...
Porous Mn₂O₃ microspheres have been synthesized and in-situ coated with amorphous carbon to form hierarchical C@Mn₂O₃ microspheres by first producing MnCO₃ microspheres in solvothermal reactions, and then annealing at 500 °C. The self-assembly growth of MnCO₃ microspheres can generate hollow structures inside each of the particles, which can act as micro-reservoirs to store biomass-glycerol for...
A novel H3PO4 etching strategy together with subsequent carbon coating has been developed for the synthesis of carbon-coated Fe3O4 microspheres with a porous multideck-cage structure. These carbon-coated Fe3O4 microspheres manifest high specific capacity (∼1100 m h g(-1) at 200 mA g(-1)) and excellent cycling stability for lithium storage.
Background: Radioactive yttrium glass microspheres are used for liver cancer treatment. These yttrium aluminum silicate microspheres are synthesized from yttrium, aluminum and silicone oxides by melting. There are two known processes used to transform irregular shaped glass particles into microspheres, these ‘spheroidization by flame’ and ‘spheroidization by gravitational fall...
Nitrogen and carbon codopants-stabilized hierarchical porous ZnS microspheres undergo an unexpected dynamic transformation into hollow microspheres when nitrogen and carbon are removed from the former. Thus, such a transformation is evidence for the unprecedented stability of non-metal doped visible light-responsive photocatalysts.
Nanomaterials are extensively studied in electrochemical energy storage and conversion systems because of their structural advantages. However, their volumetric energy density still needs improvement due to the high surface area, especially the carbon based nanocomposites. Constructing hierarchical micro-scaled materials from closely stacked subunits is proposed as an effective way to solve the...
The fabrication of manganese oxide-carbon composite microspheres with open nanochannels and their electrochemical performance as anode materials for lithium ion batteries are investigated. Amorphous-like Mn3O4 nanoparticles embedded in a carbon matrix with three-dimensional channels are fabricated by one-pot spray pyrolysis. The electrochemical properties of the Mn3O4 nanopowders are also compa...

This work reports a hard self-template method to synthesize core/shell like Fe3O4@C microparticles, in which the Pd nanocrystals can be alternatively incorporated into the carbon shells. The Fe3O4@polyaniline core/shell microspheres were first synthesized as the precursor by in situ polymerization of aniline onto the surface of the Fe3O4 microspheres. In a subsequent carbonization of the precur...
