The addition of N-(diphenylmethylene)glycinate esters (Ph2C=NCH2CO2R) 3-6 to [60]fullerene under Bingel conditions gives, respectively, the methano[60]fullerenyl iminoesters 7-10. Upon treatment of 7-9 with sodium cyanoborohydride, in the presence of a protic or a Lewis acid, a novel reductive ring-opening reaction occurred to give the corresponding 1,2-dihydro[60]fullerenyl glycine derivatives...

Four kinds of bismalonates tethered with a Tröger base derivative were synthesized and used for the double Bingel reaction of [60]fullerene. The regio/diastereoselectivities of the reaction were highly influenced by the structure of the Tröger base derivatives. Heteroaromatic analogues of the Tröger base were found to be applicable as the core of the tether.

Thermally reduced graphene nanoplatelets were covalently functionalised via Bingel reaction to improve their dispersion and interfacial bonding with an epoxy resin. Functionalised graphene were characterized by microscopic, thermal and spectroscopic techniques. Thermal analysis of functionalised graphene revealed a significantly higher thermal stability compared to graphene oxide. Inclusion of ...

carbon nanotubes have unique properties like high stability, high surface to mass ratio and so on which make them suitable for medicinal purpose applications. treatment of cancer by organoplatinum agents like cisplatin has become unresponsive in most cases due to low distribution of drug in biological fluids, inability of drug to cross cellular membranes and low stability in biological environm...

A new functionalized [60]fullerene-glycidyl azide polymer (C60-GAP) was synthesized for the first time using a modified Bingel reaction of [60]fullerene (C60) and bromomalonic acid glycidyl azide polymer ester (BM-GAP). The product was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis), and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) analyses. Results confirmed t...

More than 20 years had to pass until the x-rays discovered in 1895 by Röntgen in Würzburg made visible the interior of the skull by outlining the inner and outer surfaces of the brain. A pioneer in this field was the American Walter Dandy, who in 1918 was the first to inject air into the lateral ventricles through a burr hole. Although in 1919 he reported eight pneumencephalographies after lumb...

The double Bingel reaction of fullerene C60 with bismalonates attached to a Tröger base derived tether afforded trans-1, trans-2, trans-3, and trans-4 bisadducts with excellent regioselectivity. In particular, enantiomerically pure bisadducts with inherently chiral trans-2 or trans-3 addition patterns were prepared starting from enantiomerically pure bismalonates. The absolute configuration of ...

The reaction of dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate (DMAD) with C(60) in the presence of hexamethylphosphorous triamide (HMPT) or hexaethylphosphorus triamide (HEPT) results in fullerene derivatives incorporating HMPT or HEPT ylides. The ylide derivatives exhibit unusual electronic absorptions in the visible region (435-660 nm), likely due to the presence of the ylide moiety. Electrochemical studie...

Circumtrindene (6, C36H12), one of the largest open geodesic polyarenes ever reported, exhibits fullerene-like reactivity at its interior carbon atoms, whereas its edge carbons react like those of planar polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The Bingel-Hirsch and Prato reactions - two traditional methods for fullerene functionalization - afford derivatives of circumtrindene with one of the i...

The first fullerene-based X-ray contrast agent (CA) has been designed, synthesized, and characterized. The new CA is an externally functionalized derivative of C60 that is conceptually based on contemporary X-ray CA, all of which use iodine as the X-ray attenuating vehicle and are based on the 2,4,6-triiodinated-benzene-ring substructure. Using a modified Bingel-type reaction, a single addend c...
