OBJECTIVES We sought to evaluate the relationship between hemodynamic and ventricular dyssynchrony parameters in patients undergoing simultaneous and sequential biventricular pacing (BVP). BACKGROUND Various echocardiographic parameters of ventricular dyssynchrony have been proposed to screen and optimize BVP therapy. METHODS Forty-one patients with heart failure undergoing BVP implantation...

A growing body of research reports the health benefi ts of training heart rate variability (HRV), and the clinical use of HRV training protocols has increased dramatically in recent years. Many of the home training devices and many of the sophisticated biofeedback instrumentation systems rely on the blood volume pulse (BVP) sensor, or photoplethysmograph, because it is more user friendly than t...

A 70-year-old woman with dilated cardiomyopathy and recurrent severe heart failure was admitted for biventricular pacing (BVP), which was recently reported to have clinical efficacy for severe heart failure with intraventricular conduction delay. An electrocardiogram showed complete left bundle branch block, and the QRS interval was markedly prolonged at 195 msec. Echocardiogram showed marked d...

OBJECTIVES Bufonis venonum (BV) is the dried white secretions of the auricular and skin glands of the toads Bufo bufo gargarizans or Bufo melanosticus Schneider. This study was performed to evaluate the toxicity of intramuscularly- administered Bufonis venonum pharmacopuncture (BVP) and to calculate its approximate lethality through a single-dose test with Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. METHODS Tw...

In this work, we examine the stationary one-dimensional classical Poisson-Nernst-Planck (cPNP) model for ionic flow – a singularly perturbed boundary value problem (BVP). For the case of zero permanent charge, we provide a complete answer concerning the existence and uniqueness of the BVP. The analysis relies on a number of ingredients: a geometric singular perturbation framework for a reductio...

Asynchronous myocardial contraction in heart failure is associated with poor prognosis. Resynchronization can be achieved by biventricular pacing (BVP), which leads to clinical improvement and reverse remodeling. However, there is a substantial subset of patients with wide QRS complexes in the electrocardiogram that does not improve despite BVP. QRS width does not predict benefit of BVP and onl...

In this work we study a third-order three-point boundary-value problem (BVP). We derive sufficient conditions that guarantee the positivity of the solution of the corresponding linear BVP Then, based on the classical Guo-Krasnosel’skii’s fixed point theorem, we obtain positive solutions to the nonlinear BVP. Additional hypotheses guarantee the uniqueness of the solution.

INTRODUCTION Balloon valvuloplasty (BVP) is one of the primary therapies for congenital aortic stenosis in children and adolescents. The aim of this interventional procedure is to gain time before possible surgical therapy (aortic valve replacement) until adulthood. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy, safety and mid-term results oftranscatheter BVP in children and ad...

Background Bilateral vestibulopathy (BVP) is a debilitating disorder characterized by the hypofunction of both vestibular end organs or nerves. The most frequent identifiable causes of BVP are ototoxic drug effects, infectious and autoimmune disorders. However, the majority of cases remain idiopathic. Very recently, the first discovery of a clinical case of Amiodarone-associated BVP has been re...
