INTRODUCTION Gastric adenomyoma is a rare benign tumor, known to occur in the antrum or pylorus of the stomach. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case reported in the literature of a gastric adenomyoma in the stomach body, but not in the antrum. CASE PRESENTATION We report the case of a 79-year-old Korean woman with a gastric subepithelial lesion in the stomach body. The lesion ...
Gastric adenomyoma (GA) is a rare benign lesion, most frequently found in the pyloric/antral region of the stomach. It consists of a mixture of smooth muscle and glandular structures, occasionally cystically dilated, lined by tall columnar epithelium, Brunner’s glands, and sometimes pancreatic parenchyma. In this report, we describe an unusual case of adenomyoma of the fundus of the stomach, wh...
We diagnosed a 2-cm, large cystic adenomyoma after complete abortion without transcervical curettage, based on symptoms of dysmenorrhea, time of onset, and sonographic findings. The cystic adenomyoma was treated successfully with laparoscopic mass excision.
Gastric adenomyoma is a rare benign tumor composed of epithelial structures and smooth muscle stroma. Here, we report an unusual case of gastric adenomyoma mostly composed of smooth muscle that was incidentally found during a laparoscopic intervention. On radiology, it mimicked an acquired hypertrophic pyloric stenosis in an adult patient, and pathologically it resembled a pure smooth muscle ha...
Adenomyoma of the ileum is a rare condition. A 68-year-old Japanese man presented with nausea and distension of the abdomen. Enhanced computed tomography of his abdomen revealed wall thickening in the ileum and dilation of the proximal small intestine. Open laparotomy was performed to find the cause of the patient's small bowel obstruction, and a tumor was found in the ileum, which had resulted...
Adenomyoma is a rare benign lesion occurring commonly in the fundus of the gallbladder in the biliary tract. Ampullary adenomyoma is rarer still, presenting as obstructive jaundice due to its location at the ampulla and may mimic malignancy on clinical and radiological examination. Endoscopic biopsy may not be always diagnostic if the lesion is deep seated. Histologically these lesions show a c...
Adenomyoma of the small intestine is rare. It occurs mostly in the periampullary region or ileum. The common presentations are intussusception and intestinal or biliary obstruction, depending on the location. To our knowledge, gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding from a jejunal adenomyoma has not been reported previously. We present a 74-year-old female patient who suffered intermittent tarry stool p...
Juvenile cystic adenomyoma is a rare form of adenomyosis and described as a new type of mullerian anomaly in literature. We are presenting two cases of juvenile cystic adenomyoma which were misdiagnosed preoperatively as unicornuate uterus with haematometra in a non-communicating rudimentary horn. The mainstay of treatment is complete resection of lesion.
Uterine myoma and adenomyoma are the most common benign tumors of the uterus. Ultrasound Imaging is the widely used method in the diagnosis of both the disease conditions; however the diagnosis strongly depends on the physician’s expertise and ultrasound system quality. These drawbacks have motivated the development of computer aided applications for the quantitative analysis of ultrasound imag...
