Entamoeba histolytica is a microaerophilic protozoan parasite in which neither mitochondria nor mitochondrion-derived organelles have been previously observed. Recently, a segment of an E. histolytica gene was identified that encoded a protein similar to the mitochondrial 60-kDa heat shock protein (Hsp60 or chaperonin 60), which refolds nuclear-encoded proteins after passage through organellar ...

The role of heat shock protein 60 (HSP60), a mitochondrial chaperone, in tumor progression or its anti-tumor effects remains controversial. This study aimed to confirm the possibility using HSP60 as prognostic marker patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), considering TNM classification for precise prediction. expression increased differentiation and p53 mutations patients. However, compared hig...

The association between humoral immunity to unique and conserved epitopes of the Chlamydia trachomatis 60-kDa heat-shock protein (hsp60) and immunity to human hsp60 was examined in 129 women with laparoscopically verified pelvic inflammatory disease. An ELISA was used to detect antichlamydial IgG and IgA antibodies, IgG antibodies to recombinant human hsp60, and antibodies to two synthetic pept...

Heat shock protein 60 (hsp60)-specific CD8 T cells lysed Mycobacterium bovis BCG-infected macrophages in vitro and adoptively transferred protection against mycobacterial infection. Moreover, CD8 T cells with this hsp60 specificity were activated in vivo by BCG vaccination. Our studies suggest there is participation of hsp60-specific CD8 T cells in BCG-induced immunity.

Chlamydia pneumoniae infection has been associated with asthma. It has also been suggested that heat shock protein 60 (Hsp60) belonging to a class of highly conserved proteins may play a role in the pathogenesis of chlamydial infections. The purpose was to study whether the host immune response to C. pneumoniae Hsp60 is associated with asthma and decreased pulmonary function. An enzyme immunoas...

Mammalian 60-kDa heat-shock protein (hsp60) is a key target of T cell and Ab responses in chronic inflammation or atherosclerosis. We show in this study that human hsp60 is also an Ag recognized by cells of the innate immune system, such as macrophages. Both mouse and human macrophages respond to contact with exogenous human hsp60 with rapid release of TNF-alpha; mouse macrophages in addition p...

OBJECTIVE Growing evidence suggests that immune reactions to heat shock protein 60 (HSP60) are involved in atherogenesis. Because of the high phylogenetic conservation between microbial and human HSP60, bacterial infections might be responsible for breaking the tolerance to self-HSP60, which is expressed on the surface of stressed arterial endothelial cells. METHODS AND RESULTS We purified se...

After invasion of red blood cells, malaria matures within the cell by degrading hemoglobin avidly. For enormous protein breakdown in trophozoite stage, many efficient and ordered proteolysis networks have been postulated and exploited. In this study, a potential interaction of a 60-kDa Plasmodium falciparum (Pf)-heat shock protein (Hsp60) and Pf-calpain, a cysteine protease, was explored. Pf-in...

In several animal models of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), T cell responses to self 60-kD heat-shock protein 60 (hsp60) protect against the induction of arthritis. The nature of this suppressive T cell activity induced by self hsp60 is not clear. In the present study, T cell responses to human (self) hsp60 in RA in terms of type 1 (T1) and type 2 (T2) T cell activity were assessed. The results show...
