A series of 4-Thiazolidinone derivatives were synthesized by reaction of 3-formyl-2-arylindole derivatives, 2aminonaphthaline and mercaptoacetic acid. The structures of the new compounds were assigned on the basis of their analytical and spectral data.

From the roots of Myxopyrum smilacifolium Blume, five known compounds, verbascoside (1), arenarioside (2), myxopyroside (3), 3-formylindole (4), and 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (5) were isolated.
