PURPOSE This research paper presents antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of Pedicularis sibthorpii and Pedicularis wilhelmsiana which grow in Azerbaijan/Iran with claimed a lot of therapeutic effects. METHODS DPPH assay and agar well diffusion method were carried out to determine antioxidant and antimicrobial activities respectively. RESULTS Methanolic extract showed better antioxidant...

Metapopulations are a central concept in ecology and conservation biology; however, estimating key parameters such as colonization rates presents a substantial obstacle to modelling metapopulations in many species. We develop spatial and non-spatial simulation models that combine incidence- and demographic-based approaches to build a relationship between observed patch occupancy, habitat turnov...

The origin of the arctic flora covering the northernmost treeless areas is still poorly understood. Arctic plants may have evolved in situ or immigrated from the adjacent ecosystems. Frequently arctic species have disjunctive distributions between the Arctic and high mountain systems of the temperate zone. This pattern may result from long distance dispersal or from glacial plant migrations and...

Ten Linnaean names of Pedicularis (Orobanchaceae) are lectotypified: P. comosa, P. flammea, P. hirsuta, P. incarnata, P. lapponica, P. resupinata, P. rostrata, P. tristis, P. tuberosa and P. verticillata. Lectotypes are designated from the Linnaean herbarium at LINN. The type choices made here maintain the present usage of the corresponding Linnaean names for ten Pedicularis species.

PREMISE OF THE STUDY Microsatellite primers were developed for Pedicularis ishidoyana (Orobanchaceae), an endangered and hemiparasitic plant that is narrowly endemic to Korea. Because its populations are threatened by loss of suitable habitat, conservation efforts are required. METHODS AND RESULTS We developed polymorphic microsatellite loci through reference mapping of 300-bp paired-end read...

Pedicularis section Cyathophora is a monophyletic group characterized by perfoliate leaf and/or bract bases at each node. This section comprises four series, corresponding to four general corolla types of Pedicularis, i.e. toothless, toothed, beaked and long-tubed corollas. In this study, we aim to reconstruct a comprehensive phylogeny of section Cyathophora, and compare phylogenetic incongruen...

Pedicularis yaoshanensis H. Wang from Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated. The new species was found growing on wet cliffs, at high elevations in the Yaoshan Mountain. It is placed in Pedicularis series Longiflorae Prain. The main diagnostic features of P. yaoshanensis include its acaulescent habit, pinnatipartite leaves, calyx with 3 lobes (the posterior one smaller and tripartite), th...

Ecological succession itself could be a theoretical reference for ecosystem restoration and reconstruction. Glacier forelands are ideal places for investigating plant succession because there are representative ecological succession records at long temporal scales. Based on field observations and experimental data on the foreland of Baishui number 1 Glacier on Mt. Yulong, the succession and dis...
