background and objective: glucoamylase is a potent starch degrading enzyme whose cheap production has been an area of research. its production by aspergillus niger in solid-state fermentation was studied using dried garden pea peel as a substrate, which enormously reduced the production cost. the current study intended to produce glucoamylase by a cost-effective strategy and exhaustively charac...
The interaction of four lectins from crops of the legume family with Saccharomyces cerevisiae alpha-mannan, and also with two glycoenzymes containing mainly alpha-mannan moieties, has been studied. The interaction was characterized by a quantitative precipitation assay. The results of precipitation differ with respect to both quality (the point of maximum precipitation) and of the quantity (the...
Current concentrations of tropospheric ozone ([O3]) pollution negatively impact plant metabolism, which can result in decreased crop yields. Interspecific variation in the physiological response of plants to elevated [O3] exists; however, the underlying cellular responses explaining species-specific differences are largely unknown. Here, a physiological screen has been performed on multiple var...
Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. viciae RCAM1026 is a strain first isolated in 1964 from nodules of "Ramensky 77" cultivar of garden pea (Pisum sativum L.) now routinely used as a model strain in inoculation experiments on pea. Assembly with SPAdes yielded 133 contigs longer then 200 bp (N50 = 202,321, GC% = 60.84). Resulting annotated genome is 7,248,686 bp encoding 6792 genes.
Isolation and characterization of two severe alleles at the Stamina pistilloida (Stp) locus reveals that Stp is involved in a wide range of developmental processes in the garden pea. The most severe allele, stp-4, results in flowers consisting almost entirely of sepals and carpels. Production of ectopic secondary flowers in stp-4 plants suggests that Stp is involved in specifying floral meriste...
Platelet aggregation and anti-inflammatory effects of garden pea, Desi chickpea and Kabuli chickpea.
Inflammation is the natural body defense mechanism for the removal of injurious agents, necrosed cells and tissues from the body. This study was aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and platelet aggregation effects of three medicinal plants of Pakistan. Methanolic extract of garden pea inhibited arachidonic acid (AA)-induced platelet aggregation (IC50 = 35 microg/mL) and platelet activating ...
Tendrils are contact-sensitive, filamentous organs that permit climbing plants to tether to their taller neighbors. Tendrilled legume species are grown as field crops, where the tendrils contribute to the physical support of the crop prior to harvest. The homeotic tendril-less (tl) mutation in garden pea (Pisum sativum), identified almost a century ago, transforms tendrils into leaflets. In thi...
The lysosomal escape of nanoparticles is crucial to enhancing their delivery and therapeutic efficiency. Here, we report the cellular uptake mechanism, lysosomal escape, and organelle morphology effect of monomethoxy (polyethylene glycol)-poly (D,L-lactide-co-glycolide)-poly (L-lysine) (mPEG-PLGA-PLL, PEAL) and 4-O-beta-D-Galactopyranosyl-D-gluconic acid (Gal)-modified PEAL (PEAL-Gal) for intra...
https://doi.org/10.5128/ERYa19.01The aim of this research was to find out how differences in Chinese and Estonian spatial language influence the way L1 speakers acquire system expressing static relations. For purpose, a picture description task carried by 22 native speakers. The main finding that learners did not use support through attachment relation (expressed postposition küljes) or tip otsa...
