Motivated by experimental observations in the light-sensitive Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction and subsequent numerical works, we discuss period-doubling bifurcations of spiral waves and other coherent structures. We report on explanations of the observed phenomena which involve a detailed analysis of spectra, and of the associated eigenfunctions, of defects on bounded and unbounded domains.

Using the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction, we study the pinning of multiarmed spiral waves to nonexcitable obstacles. With increasing obstacle size, the individual arms switch from a repulsive to an attractive state. This transition yields densely aggregated spiral arms and is caused by anomalous dispersion. A kinematic model reproduces the measurements quantitatively and identifies the transitio...

In this work we present results about the deuterium isotope effect on the global kinetics of a Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction in batch conditions. A nonlinear dependence of the Induction Period upon the percentage of deuterated reactants was found. The isotopic effect on the bromination reaction of malonic acid was evaluated.

We present a methodology to entrap and run the Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction inside a polymer vesicle. We report on experiments with polymer vesicles where we observed (1) vesicle membrane deformations, (2) oscillations and (3) pulsating (expansion/contraction) episodes. The above provide us with evidence for chemo-mechanical coupling between these polymersomes and their contents.

2014 One of the possible routes to turbulence is the intermittent transition. Below the onset of turbulence regular oscillations exist, and above the onset seemingly regular oscillations are interrupted randomly by large amplitude bursts. This behaviour shows up in the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction. Moreover an analysis of the measurements indicates that a so-called « type 1 » transition takes ...
