Beef production systems that increase use of unharvested forages and use animals with greater potential for gain affect age and size of animals placed on a finishing regimen. This experiment was conducted to evaluate effects of genetic potential for gain, age at the start of a finishing period, and time on feed on composition, quantity, and quality of beef produced and efficiency of production ...

Agrin is an extracellular matrix protein that mediates the nerve-induced clustering of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on target muscle cells, and thus plays a key role in development of the neuromuscular synapse. Alternative exon usage within the rat agrin gene predicts numerous protein isoforms, which differ by the inclusion or exclusion of small inserts at three sites in the C-terminal hal...

Ampicillin at a 50-mug/ml concentration effects a doubling of the autolysis rate of cell envelopes isolated from Klebsiella pneumoniae Mir A12. This antibiotic increases also by two- to threefold the depolymerizing activity of both K. pneumoniae and Escherichia coli crude extracts on a labeled peptidoglycan-lipoprotein complex. Several other penicillins also activate autolysins.

Harlequin ichthyosis is a very rare condition that affects the skin of newborns. It is associated with poor barrier function of the skin leading to dehydration and leaves newborns prone to infections. It is due to mutations in adenosine triphosphate binding cassette A12 gene transmitted as an autosomal recessive disorder. The prognosis is very poor in these cases. Here, we report one such rare ...

and a 5% level of significance, seven different associations appear to be valid. However, when the p value is corrected by multiplying it by the number of factors investigated, only the association of HL-A12 with lymphocytic lymphomas and the 4c antigen with chronic lymphatic leukemia appear to be significant. The previously described increased incidence of W5 and 4c in Hodgkin's disease was no...

A12-month-old child was evaluated for pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect. Assessment of the whole arterial pulmonary arborization was first done by angiography. This examination revealed that the left lung received vascularization by the native pulmonary artery via a central shunt performed during the neonatal period and by 2 aortopulmonary collateral arteries. The positions of th...
