More than 300 bio-active compounds have been identified from bee propolis in various regions of the world. The objective of this study was to examine whether the ethanol extracts of Chinese and Brazilian propolis may exert anticancer activities in four human colon carcinoma cell lines, namely CaCo2, HCT116, HT29 and SW480. Propolis samples were extracted with ethanol, and the crude extracts wer...

Silylated ethanolic extract of two propolis samples from Kazan and Marmaris regions in Turkey were investigated by capillary GC-MS. The compounds were characterized by comparison with library searches. Twenty four compounds from Kazan samples were identified, eight of them were new for propolis. Eighteen compounds from Marmaris samples were identified, two of them were new for propolis.

INTRODUCTION Periodontitis is one of the most common causes of tooth loss worldwide. Recently, special attention has been paid to natural medication for its treatment. For this purpose, propolis (bee glue) activity has also been investigated. Its antibacterial properties are mainly attributed to flavonones pinocembrin, flavonols galangin and to the caffeic acid phenethyl ester. This study is ai...

Propolis is a mixture of wax, sugars and plant exudates used by bees as a general purpose glue and sealant within hives. There is a long history of medicinal usage of propolis although propolis can cause allergic reactions in susceptible individuals [1, 2]. Various components of propolis have been assessed for their antimicrobial properties [3—7], Components identified as having antimicrobial p...

BACKGROUND Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a key regulator of pathogenic angiogenesis in diseases such as cancer and diabetic retinopathy. Bee products [royal jelly (RJ), bee pollen, and Chinese red propolis] from the honeybee, Apis mellifera, have been used as traditional health foods for centuries. The aim of this study was to investigate the anti-angiogenic effects of bee produc...

Ethanolic and aqueous extracts of the natural compound PROPOLIS indicate substantial antiinflammatory functions as well as antibiotic activities in vitro and in vivo. The exact mode of physiological or biochemical mechanisms responsible for the medical effects, however, is all but clear. The standardization on the basis of quantitative determination of prominent components of these extracts hav...

Since the beginning of propolis research, several groups have studied its antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. However, most of these studies have only employed propolis ethanolic extract (PEE) leading to little knowledge about the biological activities of propolis water extract (PWE). Based on this, in a previous study, we demonstrated the anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory...
