We introduce the wide area of problems that exist in the domain of animal ethology. We then develop a technique to solve one such problem using aspects of computer vision. The method processes a video sequence of broiler chickens in a group-housing pen. A new technique has been developed for extracting a background image, which compensates for the particular idiosyncrasies inherent to the probl...

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to compare the visual acuity measured by visual tracking and by preferential looking. METHODS We examined 51 healthy full-term infants between three and 93 days of age. Visual acuity was tested with two different methods. One method was visual tracking (smooth and saccadic pursuit), recorded with an infrared photo-oculographic technique. For stimulation of...

A visual target designation and tracking system is being developed within the context of the Autonomous Scout Rotorcraft Testbed Project at Georgia Tech. This paper describes both the algorithms and the hardware being used for this purpose by the Mission Equipment Package Technology Area Team. Preliminary results using two simple tracking algorithms are presented.

Object tracking by an acoustic sensor based on particle filtering is extended for the tracking of multiple objects. In order to overcome the inherent limitation of the acoustic sensor for the simultaneous multiple object tracking, support from the visual sensor is considered. Cooperation from the visual sensor, however, is better to be minimized, as the visual sensor’s operation requires much h...

Common graph visualizations tend to produce edge crossings and overlaps when used to display resource collections that are highly interrelated via shared properties. This hampers visual exploration and understanding of relationships between resources and can negatively affect information and knowledge management. In this paper, we present a new approach that visualizes resources and their share...

Visual tracking needs modeling inter-frame motion and appearance changes. In conventional visual tracking algorithms, the appearance model is either fixed or rapidly changing, and the motion model is simply a random walk with fixed noise variance. Also, if particle filter is used for solving tracking problem, the the number of particles is typically fixed. All these factors make the visual trac...

Visual target tracking is a long-standing problem in the domain of computer vision. There are numerous methods proposed over several years. A recent trend in visual tracking has been target representation and tracking using saliency models inspired by the attentive mechanism of the human. Motivated to investigate the usefulness of such target representation scheme, we study several target repre...

objective: deficits in the processing of facial emotions have been reported extensively in patients with schizophrenia. to explore whether restricted attention is the cause of impaired emotion processing in these patients, we examined visual attention through tracking eye movements in response to emotional and neutral face stimuli in a group of patients with schizophrenia and healthy individual...

Flying insects use visual cues to stabilize their heading in a wind stream. Many animals additionally track odors carried in the wind. As such, visual stabilization of upwind tracking directly aids in odor tracking. But do olfactory signals directly influence visual tracking behavior independently from wind cues? Additionally, recent advances in olfactory molecular genetics and neurophysiology ...
