PURPOSE To investigate air puff induced corneal vibrations and their relationship to the intraocular pressure (IOP), viscoelasticity, mass, and elasticity of the cornea based on theoretical simulations and preliminary clinical observations. METHODS To simulate the corneal movement during air puff deformation, a kinematic viscoelastic corneal model was developed involving the factors of cornea...

This work proposes a coupled finite element model for actively controlled constrained layer damped CLD rotating plate with self-sensing technique and frequency-dependent material property in both the time and frequency domain analyses. Constrained layer damping with viscoelastic material can effectively reduce the vibration in rotating structures. However, most existing research models use comp...

A modified Carlson-Langer model for earthquakes is proposed, which includes nonlinear viscoelasticity. Several aftershocks are generated after the main shock owing to the damping of the additional viscoelastic force. Both the Gutenberg-Richter law and Omori's law are reproduced in a numerical simulation of the modified Carlson-Langer model on a critical percolation cluster of a square lattice.

In this paper we consider the viscoelastic equation utt −∆u+ ∫ t 0 g(t− τ)∆u(τ)dτ = 0, in a bounded domain. We show that the damping caused by the integral term is strong enough to control and stabilise the solution. Precisely, we establish an exponential decay result.

Analytical and numerical simulations are carried out in order to identify physical parameters affecting acoustic and motion control by viscoelastic piezo-electric and material damping. Numerical simulations in terms of critical parameters, such as relaxation functions of the structure and piezo-electric devices, aerodynamic coefficients, Mach number, are carried out to evaluate their sensitivit...

The effects of viscoelastic piezoelectric damping on the control of aerodynamic derivatives and of aileron reversal time retardation is formulated and evaluated. It is shown that significant control can be achieved with devices which add insignificant weight to flight vehicles, i. e. creep divergence and aileron reversal can be delayed in time.

We prove an analogue of the Caffarelli–Kohn–Nirenberg theorem for weak solutions of a system of PDEs that model a viscoelastic fluid in the presence of an energy damping mechanism. The system was recently introduced as a possible method of establishing the global-in-time existence of weak solutions of the well-known Oldroyd system.

Abstract: In our previous work (Journal of Nonlinear Science and Applications 9: 1202–1215, 2016), we studied the well-posedness and general decay rate for a transmission problem in a bounded domain with a viscoelastic term and a delay term. In this paper, we continue to study the similar problem but without the frictional damping term. The main difficulty arises since we have no frictional dam...

In this article we consider an n-dimentional thermoelastic system with a viscoelastic damping localized on a part of the boundary. We establish an explicit and general decay rate result that allows a larger class of relaxation functions and generalizes previous results existing in the literature.

Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) was used to characterize biomedical composites consisting of synthetic hydroxyapatite (HA) particulate reinforced polyethylene (PE). The effects of the HA volume fraction, temperature and HA particle on the storage modulus (E(I)) and damping (tan delta) were investigated. Increasing HA volume fractions increased E(I) and decreased tan delta. E(I) was found to b...
