BACKGROUND Lumboperitoneal shunt (LPS), ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) and optic nerve sheath fenestration (ONSF) are accepted surgical therapies for medically refractory idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). In the subset of patients with IIH and venous sinus stenosis, dural venous sinus stenting has emerged as an alternative surgical approach. METHODS All cases of dural stents for I...
A 21 year college student came with a history of generalized tonic-clonic seizures. MR Venography revealed the presence of left sigmoid and transverse sinus thrombosis with secondary venous hemorrhagic infarcts. After thorough investigation into cause of thrombosis patient was found to have a heterozygous MTHFR A1298C mutation which was causing cerebral venous sinus thrombosis.
We report the endovascular treatment of a dural carotid cavernous fistula in a 67-year-old woman in whom superior petrosal sinus catheterization was performed to access the venous site of the fistula. To our knowledge, this retrograde venous route via the superior petrosal sinus has not been previously described.
Each of two patients presented with a dural arteriovenous fistula involving the transverse sinus. The sinus was thrombosed proximal and distal to the dural arteriovenous fistula with the venous drainage being retrograde through cortical veins. An ipsilateral percutaneous transjugular approach was used in both cases and allowed recanalization of the thrombosed sinus and embolization of the dural...
A 35-year-old woman, without previous medical history except oral contraception, presented with sudden onset of stupor and clonic perseveration in the upper limbs. She was aphasic, but communicated by vertical movements of the head. Unenhanced brain computed tomography (CT) demonstrated hyperintensity of the straight sinus and hypo-intense areas within both thalami (Figure 1A) leading to a diag...
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Little is known about age-related changes in posterior fossa venous anatomy on 2D time-of-flight MR venography (MRV) or about artifacts that limit its accuracy in diagnosing venous occlusive disease. We evaluated pediatric appearances of posterior fossa venous drainage. METHODS One hundred and eight children with normal MR imaging or minimal congenital anomalies underwe...
We present an unusual case of a scalp vein detected by using angiography of the internal carotid artery. The vein arose from the superior sagittal sinus and drained into the deep posterior cervical vein via the parietal emissary vein. This scalp vein may be a collateral pathway for venous sinuses; however, the patient had no evidence of venous sinus occlusive disease or intracranial hypertension.
background: food-born botulism is caused by ingestion of contaminated food with clostridium botulinum neurotoxin. case: in food-born botulism, due to acetylcholine release blockade, neuromuscular signs and symptoms are common, but in this case report we present a food-born botulism with papiledema and venous sinus thrombosis. conclusion: papiledema and fever could not rule out the diagnosis of ...
The endovascular treatment of spontaneous dural cavernous sinus fistula (DAVF) can be accomplished by arterial approach, just with symptoms relief, or by numerous venous approaches through the inferior petrosal sinus, ophthalmic vein, anterior or posterior intercavernous sinus and facial vein. Our case suggests the approach to the cavernous sinus via the foramen ovale and emissary veins punctur...
