We present a case of coronary ectasia and LAD coronary artery aneurysm with angiographic characteristics of Kawasaki disease in a three-yr-old girl two-yr status post-orthotopic heart transplant. Coronary anomalies were noted during initial screening coronary angiography two yr after transplant. Subsequent review of the donor echocardiogram revealed that the LMCA had been mildly dilated prior t...

In transplantation, there is a critical need for noninvasive biomarker platforms for monitoring immunologic rejection. We hypothesized that transplanted tissues release donor-specific exosomes into recipient circulation and that the quantitation and profiling of donor intra-exosomal cargoes may constitute a biomarker platform for monitoring rejection. Here, we have tested this hypothesis in a h...

Lung transplantation is a therapeutic option for the treatment of advanced lung disease. The risk pulmonary infections increased in transplant recipients. We report case coinfection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Nocardia species recipient.

The objective of the study was to describe a safe and effective treatment option for endobronchial complications after solid organ transplantation. A retrospective analysis was performed in a tertiary-care university hospital. The use of bronchoscopic argon plasma coagulation (APC) for the treatment of endobronchial lesions was studied in five solid organ transplant recipients. Four patients pr...

Infection is a common problem for bone marrow transplant (BMT) recipients during the period of neutropenia that immediately follows the procedure. Gram-negative infections present a particular hazard in these immunocompromised hosts. To augment host defenses against one such pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, we immunized bone marrow transplant donors and/or recipients with a polyvalent O-polysa...

Chronic necrotizing pulmonary aspergillosis is a chronic semi invasive pulmonary disease. It is an uncommon disease and has never been reported in transplant recipients. We report a case of chronic necrotizing pulmonary aspergillosis in a renal transplant recipient.

BACKGROUND Lower incidence and severity of acute graft versus host disease (GVHD) has been observed in leukemia patients receiving HLA-mismatched umbilical cord (UCB) transplants. However, despite the increased use of UCB in stem cell transplantation, the mechanisms underlying these favorable outcomes are not well delineated. METHODS We analyzed antigen specific lymphocyte responses after tra...

BACKGROUND Kidney transplantation is the treatment choice for patients with end-stage renal diseases. Because of good long-term outcome, pediatric kidney grafts are also accepted for transplantation in adult recipients despite a significant mismatch in body size and age between donor and recipient. These grafts show a remarkable ability of adaptation to the recipient body and increase in size i...

This paper proposes a novel process for the allocation of human organs that are made available for transplantation. This new allocation process is intended to ensure that when an organ is assigned to a particular recipient, it i because that particular recipient is the most suitable patient to whom transplant the available organ. This process is famed in an agent-based organization – CARREL –, ...

Legionella londiniensis has been isolated from aqueous environments. However, to our knowledge, this organism has never been isolated from clinical specimens. A case of Legionnaires' disease in a hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipient caused by this organism is described, which confirms that L. londiniensis can be an opportunistic pathogen.
