BACKGROUND Primary airway adenoid cystic carcinomas (ACCs) are rare neoplasms and challenging to resect completely. The objective of the current study was to evaluate clinical and pathologic features and indicate prognostic factors based on different tumor locations in the airway. METHODS From March 2001 to April 2012, 82 consecutively operated patients were enrolled in this study with pathol...
We report a 19-year-old man with pulmonary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) who had a history of vertebral, anal, cardiac, tracheal, esophageal, renal, and radial limb defects (VACTERL) association and tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) + esophageal atresia (EA) repair as an infant. Children that undergo TEF + EA repair may have an increased risk for developing cancer as they reach adulthood.
The purpose of this study was to determine the benefit of high dose rate endotracheal brachytherapy as an exclusive palliative treatment of obstructive tracheal cancer. Thirty-five patients with advanced tracheal carcinoma were treated between May 1999 and March 2001 in Greatpoland Cancer Center. They were qualified for brachytherapy due to life-threatening situations. Fourteen patients were ir...
Adenoid cystic carcinoma of trachea is rare and is associated with prolonged survival and better prognosis. It is often misdiagnosed as chronic bronchitis or asthma. The ideal treatment option is surgical resection with tracheal reconstruction followed by adjuvant radiotherapy. Post operative radiotherapy may decrease the risk of local recurrence, but has no effect on the survival. In this repo...
To the Editor:-The optimal breathing tube for use during resection and reconstruction of proximal and midtracheal lesions should be a long, flexible, reinforced tube that can be manipulated easily during surgery without kinking.’ The tube should have a short, low-pressure, highvolume cuff and a very short segment beyond the cuff to allow bilateral lung ventilation through short tracheal stumps....
Overexpression of cyclin D2 was studied in 10 human squamous cell carcinoma lines, to establish whether this gene plays a role in tumor progression. We found that those cell lines that overexpressed cyclin D2 (CCND2) had the most invasive in vivo behavior. The invasive ability of the cell lines was determined by evaluating the penetration of carcinoma cells into the tracheal wall in an in vivo ...
