Next generation cathode catalysts for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) must have high catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), a lower cost than benchmark Pt catalysts, and high stability and high tolerance to permeated methanol. In this study, palladium catalysts supported on titanium suboxides (Pd/TinO2n-1) were prepared by the sulphite complex route. The aim was to impro...

A novel non-metallocene titanium complex was synthesized, and used as the catalyst for ethylene polymerization. It results in an acceptable activity, affording the polyethylene with ultra high molecular weights, and relative broad molecular weight distributions. Moreover, the molecular weight almost doesn’t change with the change of Al/Ti ratio.

Periodic mesoporous titanium phosphonate (PMTP-2) monoliths were synthesized by combining autoclaving process and evaporation-induced self-assembly strategy, which was functionalized by ClSO(3)H treatment, acting not only as an ion exchanger with large ion exchange capacity but also as a strong acid catalyst possible for some low-temperature reactions.

INTRODUCTION 6.3 million cases of bone trauma happen each year in the US alone [1]. In a majority of these cases, permanent fixation implants using titanium plates and screws are used as a remedy, but they do have their drawbacks. Some of these disadvantages include bone wear and degradation, resulting in the implant to become loose. They also present a prime site for possible infection [2]. An...

Future large-scale production of H2 for use as a clean fuel will likely depend upon gasifying coal or biomass followed by steam reforming the resulting gas mixture and separating the CO2 byproduct. The process of steam reforming and CO2 separation can be greatly simplified by utilizing a new material that combines a reforming catalyst with a sorbent for CO2. Such a material was prepared in the ...

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel (Panel) reviewed the safety of calcium sodium borosilicate, calcium aluminum borosilicate, calcium titanium borosilicate, silver borosilicate, and zinc borosilicate as used in cosmetics. These borosilicate glasses function mostly as bulking agents. Available animal and human data were considered along with data from a previous safety assessment of mag...

Strong adsorption of pollutants on activated carbon may inhibit their diffusion to the catalyst on the surface of the adsorbent and hence reduce he whole photocatalytic process. Oxidation of the carbon surface will change the adsorption properties of the carbon; and increase the capability of arbon surface to carry more titanium dioxide. In this work, activated carbon was oxidized with differen...

Titanium-based Lewis acids catalyze the α-fluorination of β-ketoesters by electrophilic N-F-fluorinating reagents. Asymmetric catalysis with TADDOLato-titanium(IV) dichloride (TADDOL = α,α,α',α'-tetraaryl-(1,3-dioxolane-4,5-diyl)-dimethanol) Lewis acids produces enantiomerically enriched α-fluorinated β-ketoesters in up to 91% enantiomeric excess, with either F-TEDA (1-chloromethyl-4-fluoro-1,4...

Monometallic and bimetallic Ni and Co catalytic nanoparticles supported on Titanium dioxide (rutile phase) substrate were prepared by wet impregnation method. These nanoparicles were used as catalysts for synthesis of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) from acetylene decomposition at 700°C by the catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD) technique. The nanomaterials (catalyst and CNTs) were...
