OBJECTIVE To investigate the presence of HT in SSc patients and its poss...

Necrobiosis lipoidica (NL) is a rare idiopathic cutaneous condition exceptionally associated with autoimmune thyroiditis. We describe the first case of NL, Hashimoto's thyroiditis and positive detection of autoantibodies. Appropriate screening for NL in patients with autoimmune thyroiditis may clarify its real incidence and the existence of a common pathogenetic pathway.

Serum anti-thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) and anti-thyroid microsomal antibody (McAb) in 213 cases of thyroid disorders and 32 cases of non-thyroid disorders were studied. The antibodies were checked by commercial tanned red cell hemagglutination kits (Thymune-T and Thymune-M) purchased from Wellcome Reagents, Limited, England. The positive rates of TgAb and McAb in patients with untreated toxic...

Prevalence of autoimmune thyroiditis is increased in patients with celiac disease and vice versa. Both diseases are frequent autoimmune diseases sharing multiple aspects lodging at the two ends of the gut-thyroid axis where the cross-talks’ pathways are still unrivalled. Many authors recommend screening patients with thyroid autoimmunity for celiac disease associated antibodies. However, routin...

A controlled prospective study of autoantibody profile on black Kenyan patients with non-toxic goitre (116), thyrotoxicosis (131) and age, sex matched hospital controls is reported. The prevalence of thyroid microsomal and thyroglobulin antibodies is 3.5% in smooth non-toxic goitre and is 5.2% in the nodular non-toxic goitre compared to 1% of the control. The results reflect that autoimmune thy...
