PURPOSE Although anterior temporal lobectomy (ATL) is an effective treatment for many patients with medically refractory temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), one risk associated with this procedure is postsurgical decline in memory. A substantial number of past studies examined factors that predict memory decline after surgery, but few have investigated multiple predictors simultaneously or considered...

The problem of testing a linear temporal logic (LTL) formula on a finite execution trace of events, generated by an executing program, occurs naturally in runtime analysis of software. We present an algorithm which takes an LTL formula and generates an efficient dynamic programming algorithm. The generated algorithm tests whether the LTL formula is satisfied by a finite trace of events given as...

Background: Epilepsy is considered as one of the most important disorders in neurology. Temporal lobe epilepsy is a form of epilepsy including two main types of mesial and lateral (neocortex). Objectives: Determination and comparison of electroencephalogram (EEG) pattern in the ictal and interictal phases of mesial and lateral temporal lobe epilepsy. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectiona...

We study p-adic multiresolution analyses (MRAs). A complete characterisation of test functions generating MRAs (scaling functions) is given. We prove that only 1-periodic test functions may be taken as orthogonal scaling functions. We also suggest a method for the construction of wavelet functions and prove that any wavelet function generates a p-adic wavelet frame.

PURPOSE Memory decline is often observed after anterior temporal lobectomy (ATL), particularly in patients with dominant hemisphere resections. However, the follow-up length has been 1 year or less in most studies. Our aims were to examine postoperative memory changes over a longer period and to identify baseline demographic and clinical predictors of memory outcome. METHODS We administered m...

Present paper is devoted to information security issues in temporal databases. All features and characteristics of temporal systems are considered and studied in this paper: main important types of temporal relations; as well as the principles providingconfidentiality, integrity, and reliability the three basic components of information security in databases. The presented examples in this pape...

Independent component analysis (ICA) is a technique that attempts to separate data into maximally independent groups. Achieving maximal independence in space or time yields two varieties of ICA meaningful for functional MRI (fMRI) applications: spatial ICA (SICA) and temporal ICA (TICA). SICA has so far dominated the application of ICA to fMRI. The objective of these experiments was to study IC...

This article investigates the bias and variance of mixtures-of-experts (ME) architectures. The variance of an ME architecture can be expressed as the sum of two terms: the first term is related to the variances of the expert networks that comprise the architecture and the second term is related to the expert networks' covariances. One goal of this article is to study and quantify a number of pr...

We propose a spatio-temporal markup for the annotation of motion predicates in text, informed by a lexical semantic classification of these verbs. We incorporate this classification within a spatial event structure, based on Generative Lexicon Theory. We discuss how the spatial event structure suggests changes to annotation systems designed solely for temporal or spatial phenomena, resulting in...
