PURPOSE To characterise the results of the largest patient series to date undergoing closed conjunctival delayed adjustable suture techniques. METHODS A multicentre retrospective review of 440 operations (patients aged 10-91 years) by five surgeons at four centres were evaluated for surgical outcomes associated with the delayed adjustable suture technique. RESULTS 26% (116 of 440) of all pa...
We presented a surgical technique including a suture bridge technique with relatively small incision for the reduction and fixation of posterior ligament avulsion fractures. A suture anchor was used to hold the avulsed fragment and a knotless anchor was used to continuously compress the bony fragment into the fracture site, thereby maintaining reduction during healing.
http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S1806-37132014000600013 The current intercostal nerve preservation strategy requires that care be taken when closing a thoracotomy. There are currently three thoracotomy closure techniques: • transosteal or transcostal suture closure • transperiosteal suture closure(5) • pericostal suture closure, whereby sutures are placed in the virtual space between the periosteum a...
Aboulfalah et al. (1) introduced a unique technique for a uterine compression suture (UCS), which included suture removal within 48 h after delivery. This technique is epoch-making. To obstetricians, the year 1997 is memorable regarding the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), when B-Lynch et al. introduced the UCS (2), which dramatically changed the treatment of PPH from hysterectomy to u...
Methods Between February 2001 and October 2011, a total number of 443 patients with aortic valve stenosis underwent aortic valve replacement. It was isolated in 217 patients (group A), combined with coronary vascularisation in 137 cases (group B) and with other concomitant cardiac procedures in 89 cases (group C). In all groups continuous suture technique was used. The most of coronary anastomo...
The surgical correction of four cases of paralytic strabismus, in which the muscle is repositioned postoperatively with the active co-operation of the patient, is described. The method adopted by the author, by inserting the suture near the limbus, increases the degree of adjustability and allows for more extensive repositioning of the conjunctiva.
PURPOSE Congenital ptosis is a troubling eye condition for pediatric ophthalmologists. There are many considerations to contemplate when deciding when to operate and which technique to use. METHODS A retrospective chart review of 69 pediatric patients treated for congenital ptosis using a double rhomboid frontalis sling with a nylon suture at a single tertiary care center. RESULTS For patie...
Rectocele is a condition that can be repaired transrectally with an obliterative suture technique. The obliterative suture is essentially a tightly drawn continuous lock-stitch suture that strangulates the tissues contained in the suture line, and causes them to slough, yet approximates the tissues at the base of the suture line, the submucosa, and muscularis layers and allows them to heal rapi...
BACKGROUND Suture exposure remains to be a potential problem of transscleral fixated posterior chamber intraocular lens (PCIOL). We report a modified technique to minimize the risk of suture exposure for the transscleral fixation of PCIOL. METHODS The modified surgical technique is as following: at first, two 3 mm × 4 mm square scleral pockets were created from groove incisions at opposite po...
