A biofilm is an aggregate of microorganisms in which cells adhere to each other on a surface. The biofilm forming capacity of five isolate of streptococcus species were tested by microtitre plate assay. The assay was optimized in LB broth for 48h incubation, fixing of cells by heat and staining using solubilizing solution. The optimized microtitre plate assay can be effectively used for the ass...

Abstract Lantana camara belongs to the family Verbenaceae. This consists of more than 100 genera and contains nearly 2600 species. Many these species are tropical or subtropical region. L. is cultivated as decorative plant for making a boundary in garden field. Whole extracts used treat asthma, measles, various types cancer. The study aims extract triterpenoid within lantana considering environ...

Facklamia sp are Gram-positive cocci that are often mistaken for viridans streptococci, but they rarely cause invasive disease. In this report, we describe a case of mixed Facklamia sp and Streptococcus pneumoniae meningitis in an immunocompetent host with sinusitis. This case demonstrates that Facklamia sp may be part of normal human flora but can be associated with invasive disease.

UNLABELLED The distribution, genome location, and evolution of the four paralogous zinc metalloproteases, IgA1 protease, ZmpB, ZmpC, and ZmpD, in Streptococcus pneumoniae and related commensal species were studied by in silico analysis of whole genomes and by activity screening of 154 representatives of 20 species. ZmpB was ubiquitous in the Mitis and Salivarius groups of the genus Streptococcu...

Sialylation of bacterial capsules has been proposed as an important virulence factor for several species of encapsulated pathogens, including group B Streptococcus. We have constructed a transposon mutant strain of type III group B Streptococcus that expresses a capsular polysaccharide differing from the wild type only in that the mutant strain's capsule lacks sialic acid. The mutant polysaccha...

Background: Identifying the best species of medicinal plants and extracting effective substances can be effective in preventing oral and dental illness. The Malva sylvestris L. is among these plants. Malva sylvestris L. belongs to Malvaceae family from which A great deal of (Malvone A: 2-methyl-3-methoxy-5,6-di- hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone) anthocyanin and important natural pigments have been ex...

This report describes a case of neonatal bacteraemia and meningitis due to Streptococcus gallolyticus subsp. pasteurianus. Based on the identification kit results, this species may have been reported as Streptococcus bovis or S. bovis biotype II. The accurate identification of this organism is mandatory for evaluating the aetiology of neonatal meningitis.

We report evidence of interspecies gene transfer between the important virulence factor genes sfbI and gfbA. Because the identified group G streptococcus gfbA types possess DNA cassettes that can be identified in a number of group A streptococcus strains, it appears that homologous recombination is occurring between these species.

We report the first case of infection due to Streptococcus oligofermentans, which is a recently described oral Streptococcus species. It was responsible for the endocarditis and left forearm abscess of a 43-year-old woman. Identification was made using molecular techniques performed directly from valvular and surgical samples.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Acute apical abscesses are serious endodontic diseases resulting from pulpal infection with opportunistic oral microorganisms. The objective of this study was to identify and compare the oral microbiota in patients (N=18) exhibiting acute apical abscesses, originating from the demographic region in Portland, Oregon. The study hypothesis is that abscesses obtained from ...
